Sioux Falls 3, St. Paul 0 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries (3-2) pitching staff combined to hold the St. Paul Saints (2-3) to just three hits on the day as they earned a 3-0 win.
Starting pitcher Ty Culbreth picked up the win for pitching six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out two batters. Relievers Michael Gunn, Nicco Blank and Keaton Steele (who earned the save) each pitched one perfect inning to close out the game.
Offensively, 2B Ryan Long (2-for-4) hit a lead-off home run in the top of the second inning to put the Canaries in front. In the fifth, 1B Alay Lago hit into a fielder’s chase that allowed SS Andrew Ely to score and DH Jabari Henry scored in the next at-bat as 3B Damek Tomscha (2-for-5) reached on an error.
Though the Saints had just three hits in the game, RF Max Murphy had two of them.
Milwaukee 8, Chicago 7 — Box Score
The Milwaukee Milkmen used a ninth-inning run to top the Chicago Dogs 8-7 on Wednesday night at Impact Field.
With the game tied at 7-7 heading into the final frame, SS Mason Davis hit a lead-off single and then stole second base. After a line out to left field from LF Logan Trowbridge, Davis scored the eventual game-winning run when C Christian Correa (2-for-5) singled to right field. In the bottom of the ninth, DH Edwin Arroyo (2-for-3) hit a lead-off double but was stranded there as Reliever Karch Kowalczyk recorded three straight outs to record the save.
CF Brett Vertigan was one of five Milkmen to have a multi-hit game as he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. For the Dogs, Arroyo and CF Michael Crouse each had a pair of hits, including home runs.
Winnipeg 5, Fargo-Moorhead 0 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes improved to 4-1 on the young season with a 5-0 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Wednesday evening at Newman Outdoor Field.
The Goldeyes took the lead in the bottom of the second innings when SS Wes Darvill (2-for-4) singled home both 1B Kyle Martin and RF Logan Hill (2-for-4). Those two runs would have been enough for the win but the Goldeyes added to the lead in the fifth when 2B Kevin Lachance singled to score DH Roy Morales (2-for-4) and again when Morales doubled home Darvill in the seventh.
C John Nester (2-for-4) plated the final run of the night with a double in the eighth that plated Logan Hill.
The RedHawks were held to just five hits in the game (two from LF Correlle Prime) thanks in large part to the efforts of starting pitcher Mitchell Lambson. Lambson went six innings and allowed five hits while striking out three batters to earn the win.
