SALTDOGS ERASE 6-RUN DEFICIT, EDGE SAINTS

Lincoln 8, St. Paul 7Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs fought out of an early 6-0 hole to come back and top the St. Paul Saints 8-7.

The Saints took that early lead thanks to a five-run second inning that saw RBI base hits from SS Jon Kristoffersen, 2B Tony Thomas and LF Angelo Songco as well as a sacrifice fly from DH Vince Difazio. But The Saltdogs cut into the lead with a grand slam from 3B Luis Alen in the third inning. In the fifth, 1B Austin Gallagher scored as 2B Cesar Valera bounced out and LF Jon Smith scored on a pass ball to tie the score. In the sixth, CF Robby Kuzdale scored on a sac fly and Alen doubled home SS Juan Martinez to take a two-run lead.

3B Nate Hanson doubled home 1B David Bergin in the bottom of the frame but the Saltdogs held on the rest of the way.

Sioux Falls 5, Kansas City 1 Box Score

While the Kansas City T-Bones sent nine different pitchers to the mound, the Sioux Falls Canaries only needed one. Starting pitcher Kris Regas pitched a complete game to give the Canaries a 5-1 win.

Regas went the distance allowing just six hits and one run and that run didn’t come until 2B Starlin Rodriquez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth. Regas faced 34 batters on the night, striking out seven of them, and needed 122 pitches to finish off the game.

Offensively for the Canaries, CF Ethan Chapman brought home a pair of runs with a two-run home run in the top of ninth inning and RF Aaron Owen, who scored on Chapman’s blast, hit a solo shot of his own in the eighth. 2B Darwin Perez also scored twice in the game for Sioux Falls.
