September 4 Afternoon Recap

Sioux City 10, Texas 4 – Box

The Sioux City Explorers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning and would never look back as they defeated Texas by the score of 10-4. Sioux City collected 18 hits in the contest and scored in six of the nine innings. Explorers CF Tim Colwell went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while 3B Tommy Mendonca had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs. Sioux City pitcher PJ Francescon tossed three innings of relief and collected his fifth win of the year. Francescon gave up an earned run on four hits and struck out two batters. With the victory, the Explorers clinched the Central Division.

Gary SouthShore 5, Joplin 2 – Box

Gary SouthShore scored a run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead and would go on to beat Joplin by a 5-2 final. RailCats C Jaime Del Valle went 2-for-4 with a run scored while RF Colin Willis added a pair of RBI in a 1-for-3 day. Gary SouthShore starting pitcher Charle Rosario threw eight solid innings and notched his 11th win of the season. Rosario allowed two earned runs on four hits and fanned four batters. For Joplin in the loss, CF KC Huth hit a sixth inning solo home run.

Fargo-Moorhead at Winnipeg (Postponed – Rain)

The game between Fargo-Moorhead and Winnipeg was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, September 5 beginning at 1:00 PM.
