SAINTS HOLD T-BONES TO A SINGLE RUN IN FRIDAY NIGHT WIN

St. Paul 4, Kansas City 1 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints held the Kansas City T-Bones to just one run on five hits as they picked up a 4-1 win on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The Saints snatched up the lead in the top of the third inning when 3B Dante Bichette Jr. (2-for-3) hit a two-run home run and, later in the inning, SS Anthony Phillips scored on a wild pitch. Kansas City’s lone run came in the bottom of the fifth when 1B Noah Perio Jr. doubled and then traded places with C Adrian Nieto two batters later.

St. Paul added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as Bichette Jr. lifted a sacrifice fly to right that scored 1B Brady Shoemaker.

 

Gary SouthShore 8, Winnipeg 1 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats moved one game above .500 on the season with an 8-1 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes Friday night at Shaw Park.

The RailCats tallied 12 hits in the game while they held the Goldeyes to just four. Leadoff batter 2B Tucker Nathans had two of those hits as he went 2-for-4 on the night and LF Grant Heyman and 3B Josh Mazzola each had one hit. The lone run was scored by 1B Jordan Ebert on a sac fly from RF Josh Romanski in the fifth inning.

For the RailCats, eight different batters each had one hit and half of them had two-hit games. DH Ronnie Mitchell went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in the game and 2B Cole Fabio went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

CF Reggie Wilson and LF Tillman Pugh also added a pair of hits for the RailCats.

 

 

Cleburne 7, Chicago 4 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders built an early 7-0 lead and never trailed on the way to a 7-4 win against the Chicago Dogs.

The offense got rolling in the second inning with a father-son home run combo. DH Rafael Palmeiro hit a lead-off home run and three batters later, 3B Patrick Palmeiro hit a two-run home run. In the next inning, the younger Palmeiro homered again, this time it was a three-run shot, giving the Railroaders a 6-0 lead. For the season, Rafael Palmeiro now has six home runs while Patrick Palmeiro has eight.

In the fourth, SS Angel Rosa added a sac fly for Cleburne to score C Blake Grant-Parks (2-for-3).

For the Dogs, RF Rubi Silva (2-for-5) plated the first run in the fifth with an RBI single and, two batters later, DH Joe Benson added an RBI single of his own. The Dogs added two more runs in the top of the ninth as 2B Edwin Arroyo (2-for-4) and Silva each had RBI singles but the rally ended as 1B/3B Trey Vavra bounced into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 11, Sioux Falls 3 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored three runs in the top of the first inning – two off a Charlie Valerio home run – and led the entire way to an 11-3 victory against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

The two teams combined for 23 hits, but the RedHawks were able to convert their 12 hits into 11 runs on the night. 1B Chris Jacobs led the way for the RedHawks as he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. LF Brennan Metzger went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run score while 3B Leobaldo Pina and RF Tim Colwell also pitched in a pair of hits. Colwell added an RBI and a run scored.

For the Canaries, RF Chris Grayson, 1B David Bergin and DH Jabari Henry each had two-hit performances.

 

Sioux City 11, Lincoln 3 – Box Score

Sioux City’s hot start paved the way for an 11-3 win against the Lincoln Saltdogs Friday night at Mercy Field.

The Canaries struck first in the bottom of the second as DH Dexture McCall (2-for-4) singled in 3B Jose Sermo (2-for-3). In the next at-bat, 1B Daniel Jackson (3-for-4) singled in a pair of runs and, after LF Luis Durango bounced out, C Dylan Kelly scored on a passed ball to take a 4-0 lead. In the third, Sermo pitched in an RBI single and scored when McCall grounded out. 2B Jay Baum (3-for-5) also doubled home SS Nate Samson (2-for5) in the inning.

That 7-0 start proved to be more than enough for the home side as it held Lincoln to just three runs in the game. Two of those runs cam in the top of the seventh when C Dashenko Ricardo (3-for-4) and 3B/SS Christian Ibarra each had RBI singles.

The Canaries eliminated any hope of a comeback in the bottom of the inning as Baum singled in Samson and then Jackson added a three-RBI single.

 

Wichita 12, Texas 3 – Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts used 16 hits and one massive, six-run inning to take care of business against the Texas AirHogs 12-3.

The Wingnuts were leading 6-0 heading into the eighth inning but the AirHogs cut that in half. SS Yang Jin singled home 3B Chen Chen and 2B Casio Grider (3-for-4) singled in C Li Ning. To cap the rally, CF Dillon Thomas bounced out to allow Jin to score. But the Wingnuts responded in the bottom half of the inning. RF Hunter Clanin (2-for-4) singled in the first run and then he scored alongside DH Logan Watkins (3-for-4) and SS Leo Vargas (2-for-3) when CF Zach Nehrir (2-for-4) scored. In the next at-bat, 1B Abel Nieves (2-for-3) lifted a sac fly to plate Nehrir.

After LF Tony Thomas drew a walk, C John Nester doubled home Thomas to reach the final nine-run margin.

For the game, 3B Logan Trowbridge also had a solid night at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. On the mound, starting pitcher Jordan Cooper earned the win for throwing 7.1 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits while striking out two.
