MOORHEAD, MINNESOTA — The contract of Kansas City T-Bones’ LHP Joe Filomeno has been purchased by the Seattle Mariners, the American Association announced on Friday.
Filomeno (3-1) debuted with the T-Bones on June 3 after starting the season with the Frisco Roughriders of the Texas Rangers organization (double-A). The Louisville grad gave up just three earned runs in his 18.2 innings of relief with Kansas City, good for a 1.44 ERA.
Filomeno was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. The lefty spent parts of five seasons in the Rangers organization producing his best season to date in 2016. While splitting time between double-A (41.0 innings) and high-A (15.2), Filomeno went 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA across 41 relief appearance.
Filomeno is the 11th player to have been sold to from the American Association to a Major League organization since the end of last season and he is the fifth T-Bones player to be sold in that span.
