REDHAWKS TAKE RUBBER MATCH AGAINST SAINTS SUNDAY

Fargo-Moorhead 8, St. Paul 6-Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks prevailed over the St. Paul Saints by a score of 8-6 in a rubber match Sunday.

The series loss marks just the second of the season for St. Paul.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by DH Brady Shoemaker in the top of the first. The RedHawks tied the game at 1-1 in the following frame with an RBI groundout by 1B Chris Jacobs.

St. Paul’s 3B Blake Schmidt hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it 2-1. Two batters later, 3B Chesney Young hit an RBI single to make it 3-1.

In the top of the fifth, RF Burt Reynolds hit an RBI single to give the Saints a 4-1 lead. Jacobs picked up his second RBI of the game on a single in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, RF Tim Colwell drew a walk with the bases loaded to make it 4-3.

2B T.J. Bennett delivered a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift the RedHawks to a 6-3 lead. Later in the inning, SS Yhoxian Medina picked up an RBI on a double to make it 7-4.

St. Paul drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the eighth to make it 7-5 and in the next at-bat 1B Brady Shoemaker drove in a run with a single to make it 7-6.

Bennett delivered an RBI single to in the bottom of the eighth to bring the game to its final score.

LHP Joe Filomeno pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh to pick up the win for the RedHawks.

RHP Geoff Broussard pitched a scoreless ninth, leaving the bases loaded to earn the save.

The win moves Fargo-Moorhead within .5 game of the Saints for first place in the American Association’s North Division.

 

Sioux Falls 9, Milwaukee 2-Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries picked up their second consecutive win over the Milwaukee Milkmen Sunday.

The Canaries started the game with a five-run bottom of the first that included RBI singles by LF Kevin Taylor, C Mike Hart, and RF Clint Coulter as well as an RBI double by SS Andrew Ely.

The Milkmen got on the board in the top of the third via an RBI single by 2B Garrett Copeland.

Ely picked up another RBI on a single in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1 Sioux Falls. The Canaries piled on with a three bottom of the fourth that included a solo home run by DH Josh Rehwaldt.

SP Mark Seyler earned the win after giving up to runs in seven innings of work.
