RAILROADERS DEFEAT AIRHOGS BEHIND TWO-HIT SHUTOUT

Cleburne

Cleburne 10, Texas 0 – Box Score

Starting pitcher Eudis Idrogo and two relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as Cleburne downed Texas, 10-0. The win by the Railroaders is their fifth straight and keeps them only a game behind Sioux City in the tight South Division race.

Idrogo tossed the first five innings of the contest and gave up the two hits and three walks while striking out eight batters. The bullpen duo of D.J. Sharabi and Braden Pearson finished off the final four innings and combined gave up only a walk to go along with two strikeouts. Idrogo notched his second win of the season.

Offensively for Cleburne, the team banged out 15 hits with eight of the nine batters in the lineup recording at least one. Railroaders DH Chase Simpson went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs while C John Nester scored a pair of runs in a three-hit night. In total, Cleburne launched three home runs in the game.

 

Sioux Falls 2, Milwaukee 1 – Box Score

Center fielder Brett Vertigan launched a solo home run in the fifth inning to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead and that proved to be the difference in the game as the Canaries edged past Milwaukee, 2-1.

After two scoreless innings of action, Sioux Falls jumped out on top 1-0 in the third as 3B Nyles Nygaard came home to score on a groundout by 1B Jordan Ebert. After the blast by Vertigan to make it 2-0 Canaries, the Milkmen would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the seventh as 1B Glen McClain singled home DH Jose Rosario. Milwaukee would never threaten again after that and Sioux Falls took home the victory.

Vertigan went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Nygaard had a double in three at-bats and plated a run.

Canaries starting pitcher Taylor Hill threw seven solid innings en route to the big victory. The 30-year-old gave up an earned run on seven hits and struck out eight batters. With the win, Hill is now 5-1 on the year.

 

Gary SouthShore 6, Kansas City 3 – Box Score

Gary SouthShore tallied four runs in the first inning to jump ahead 4-0 and they would coast from there to a 6-3 victory over Kansas City.

The RailCats had eight hits in the game and was led by RF Colin Willis who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. The 26-year-old was a double shy of hitting for the cycle. In addition to Willis, 1B Alex Crosby had a 2-for-4 night with a run scored while C Wilfredo Gimenez added a hit in three at-bats and drove in two runs.

Gary SouthShore starter Jumpei Akanuma allowed one unearned run over five innings of work and nabbed the victory. The Lee University product gave up a pair of hits and fanned three batters in a 64-pitch outing. Akanuma is now 2-0 on the season with the win.

Designated hitter Daniel Nava launched a solo home run in the loss for the T-Bones.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 11, St. Paul 1 – Box Score

In the second game of a three-game set between the top two teams in the North Division, Fargo-Moorhead rolled to an 11-1 win over St. Paul. The RedHawks plated seven runs over their final two trips to the plate to open a close game and win going away.

Fargo-Moorhead banged out 14 hits in the contest with four batters having multi-hit games. RedHawks leadoff hitter Brennan Metzger led the way at the plate going 3-for-4 with a home run, three scored and three RBIs. Fargo-Moorhead RF Tim Colwell scored a pair of runs and drove in two in 1-for-2 night while DH Chris Jacobs had two hits in four at-bats along with a run and two RBIs.

RedHawks starting pitcher Taylor Bloye threw five solid innings and picked up his first win of the 2019 season. Bloye allowed an earned run on three hits and struck out seven batters.

For the Saints in the loss, RF Max Murphy had a 2-for-4 night.

 

Sioux City 3, Lincoln 2 – Box Score

Sioux City maintained their one game lead over the Cleburne Railroaders in the South Division as they defeated Lincoln by the final of 3-2.

The Explorers scored all three of their runs with one swing of the bat in the eighth inning as 3B Jose Sermo launched a two-out, three-run blast, his fourth of the season. The Saltdogs had been holding a 2-0 lead since the second inning when 1B Tyler Moore hit a two-run home run.

Sermo went 1-for-4 with three RBIs while RF Michael Lang had a pair of hits in four at-bats and a run scored. Catcher Dylan Kelly also chipped in two hits and a run for the Sioux City offense.

Explorers pitcher Tyler Fallwell threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. The righty struck out three of the four batters he faced. Fallwell is now 5-2 on the year.

 

Chicago 4, Winnipeg 2 – Box Score

Chicago tallied three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and would go on to defeat Winnipeg by the score of 4-2.

The Dogs scored all three of these runs with two outs. After 2B Edwin Arroyo walked to lead off the inning, CF David Olmedo-Barrera and SS Jordan Dean each followed up with groundouts. After Dean’s at-bat, 1B Keon Barnum came to the dish and hit a double to score Arroyo and make it 2-1 Chicago. Right fielder Victor Roache would then come to the plate and launch a two-run blast to give the Dogs a 4-1 advantage. The Goldeyes would add a run in the ninth but that is it.

Roache had a 1-for-4 night with two RBIs while C Mitchell Kranson had a pair of hits in three at-bats including a home run.

Chicago reliever Casey Crosby tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to notch his first victory. Crosby fanned three batters in the seven he faced.
