REDHAWKS SCORE THREE IN THE EIGHTH TO BEAT RAILROADERS

Fargo Background

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Cleburne 3 – Box Score

Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit and beat Cleburne, 4-3. With the win by the RedHawks and the St. Paul loss, Fargo-Moorhead and the Saints are now tied for the lead in the North Division with two games to go.

The RedHawks had seven hits on the night and were led by LF Correlle Prime who went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Fargo-Moorhead 2B Devan Ahart scored a pair of runs in a 1-for-3 night while CF Brennan Metzger and RF Tim Colwell each picked-up a base hit and scored a run.

RedHawks pitcher Michael Hope tossed two innings of relief and claimed the win. The Shippensburg University product gave up an earned run on two hits and fanned a batter. With the victory, Hope is now a perfect 8-0 on the 2019 season.

For the Railroaders, C John Nester went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI.

 

Gary SouthShore 2, Lincoln 0 – Box Score

Gary SouthShore starting pitcher David Griffin and three relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as the RailCats downed Lincoln, 2-0.

Griffin went the first 5 1/3 innings of the contest allowing only a hit and two walks while fanning two batters. The bullpen trio of Andrew Cartier, Ryan Thurston and Sandy Lugo finished off the final 3 2/3 innings and gave up a hit and a walk and struck out four batters. Cartier notched the victory and is 3-0 while Lugo collected his 10th save.

Offensively for the RailCats, 3B Hayden Schilling led the way at the plate going 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Gary SouthShore SS Marcus Mooney and LF Raymond Jones each had a base hit and a run scored while C Jackson Smith added a hit and an RBI. The RailCats scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

 

Winnipeg 3, Sioux Falls 2 – Box Score

Center fielder Reggie Abercrombie belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Winnipeg a 3-2 walk-off win over Sioux Falls. The victory by the Goldeyes was their seventh straight.

Abercrombie went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs while SS Wes Darvill and 1B Kyle Martin each contributed a hit and a run scored. Designated hitter Willy Garcia also helped the Winnipeg offense by going 1-for-3 and driving in a run.

Goldeyes pitcher Brandon Bingel tossed a scoreless inning of relief and earned the victory. The righty struck out one in the four batters he faced. With the win, Bingel is now 3-2 on the season.

For the Canaries in the losing effort, SS Andrew Ely had a 2-for-4 night with a run batted in.

 

Texas 3, Milwaukee 1 – Box Score

Texas scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead and that would prove to be the difference in the game as the AirHogs defeated Milwaukee, 3-1.

Starting pitcher Zhang Tao tossed eight shutout innings for Texas and notched his fourth victory of the season. Tao allowed only a hit and two walks while striking out five batters in 104 pitches. AirHogs reliever Carlos Contreras allowed an earned run on a hit in the ninth but held on for his fourth save of the year.

Offensively for Texas, RF Justin Byrd led the way going 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. AirHogs CF Javion Randle had a hit in four at-bats along with two runs batted in while SS Yang Jin and 3B Luo Jinjun each contributed a pair of hits.

First baseman Glen McClain hit a solo home run in the loss for the Milkmen.

 

Chicago 9, St. Paul 3 – Box Score

Chicago won their fifth game in a row as the Dogs defeated St. Paul by a 9-3 final. The loss by the Saints puts them into a first-place tie with Fargo-Moorhead in the North Division.

There were 12 hits collected by Chicago with eight batters in the lineup picking up at least one. Dogs DH Trey Vavra led the charge going 2-for-4 with a run, a walk and two RBI. Chicago 2B Edwin Arroyo had three hits in five at-bats along with a pair of runs while CF Brett Milazzo plated two runs and walked twice in a 1-for-3 outing. Third baseman Jordan Dean also helped the Dogs offense by launching a grand slam in the fifth inning.

Chicago starter Carlos Zambrano allowed three earned runs in five innings of work and notched the victory. The righty gave two walks and eight hits to go with five punchouts. Zambrano is now 4-1 on the year with the big win.

 

Kansas City 3, Sioux City 2 (10 Innings) – Box Score

Kansas City RF Stewart Ijames singled home 2B Dylan Tice with the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the T-Bones edged past Sioux City, 3-2. With the win, Kansas City took over sole possession of first place in the South Division.

Shortstop Ramsey Romano started off the 10th for the T-Bones by flying out to center field. The next batter, Tice, was hit by a pitch and took first base. After 3B Mason Davis struck out for the second out, Tice stole second base and then came home on the Ijames single.

Ijames went 3-for-5 on the night with a run scored and an RBI while CF Omar Carrizales had two hits in four at-bats along with a run.

Kansas City pitcher Hunter Smith tossed two scoreless innings of relief and earned the win. The 25-year-old gave up a hit and walked one in the eight batters he faced. Smith is now 1-0 on the year with the victory.

Center fielder Kyle Wren had a 2-for-4 outing with a RBI in the loss for the Explorers.
