MCGOVERN K’S 14 IN GOLDEYES’ WIN

Winnipeg 2, Chicago 1- Box Score

Kevin McGovern led the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Dogs on Saturday.

The Craft southpaw gave up just one run on three hits while striking out 14 in the affair. The 14 punchouts are a single-game high in the American Association this season.

The Goldeyes scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first came on a RBi double by Kevin Garcia to score Reggie Abercrombie who reached on a single before swiping second. In the next at bat, Josh Mazzola drove in Garcia with with a single to left field.

Chicago scored their lone run in the top of the eighth on a sac fly by Matt Dean.

Victor Capellan pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Fargo-Moorhead 3, Gary SouthShore 1- Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks gave the Gary SouthShore Railcats a dose of their own medicine in a 3-1 win on Saturday.

The Railcats won the first two games of the series by holding the RedHawks to one in each, however, on Saturday they found themselves on the other end of a sharp pitching performance. Benji Waite was on point from the start, giving up one unearned run on five hits and one two walks while striking out three.

Fargo-Moorhead took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The inning went single, walk, RBI single by Devan Ahart and RBI sacrifice fly by Keury De La Cruz before the final two outs were recorded. Gary SouthShore scored their lone run in the top of the sixth on a Reggie Wilson that drove in Colin Willis who had reached earlier on an error. The RedHawks answered to bring the game to its final score in the next frame on a RBI triple by Leobaldo Pina.

Andrew Woeck pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, before handing the ball over to Randy McCurry who earned the save with a scoreless ninth.

 

Sioux Falls 5, St. Paul 3- Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries used a big fifth inning to defeat the St. Paul Saints 5-3 on Saturday.

The inning went single, single, error with one scoring on the error. In the next at bat, Chris Grayson clubbed a three-run home run to score the go-ahead run. The Saints answered with a three-run home run by Brady Shoemaker in the next fram, but that was all they would score. Sioux Falls added one in the ninth to bring the game to its final score.

Joe Bircher was awarded the win, giving up three earned on seven hits and three walks while striking out two in five innings of work. James Jones earned the save

 

Cleburne 4, Lincoln 1- Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders scored late to defeat the Lincoln Saltdogs 4-1 on Saturday.

The game was scoreless until the top of the eighth when Cleburne’s Blake Grant-Parks drove in Axel Johnson with a groundout. In the next at bat, the Railroaders scored two more on a throwing error. Cleburne added one in the next inning before Lincoln made a push, scoring one on a RBI single by Christian Ibarra before leaving the bases loaded.

Michael Gunn was awarded the win.

 

Kansas City 11, Wichita Wingnuts 2= Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bone’s bats were active Saturday night in an 11-2 victory over the Wichita Wingnuts.

All but two of the T-Bones’ batters had hits in this one, five had multiple hits, and the team collected a total of 13 hits with five being doubles. Cal Towey led the way going 2-3 with two RBI, a double and two runs scored.

Scott Carroll backed up the stellar offense with a strong pitching performance that yielded no runs, scattering four hits and striking out two in five innings of work.

 

Sioux City 7, Texas 3- Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers defeated the Texas AirHogs 7-3 on Saturday.

The seven runs came on just eight hits. The Explorers scored their first two in the bottom of the first when Michael Lang belted a two-run shot. The AirHogs tied the game in the top of third when Corelle Prime hit an RBI triple and later scored on a single by Dillon Thomas. Sioux City scored one in the fourth before pulling away in the eighth with a four run frame that included a two-run double by Jay Baum and a two-run single by Dylan Kelly.

Taylor Jordan was awarded the win and Parker Markel was awarded a two inning save.
