LINCOLN’S LATE PUSH MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

Lincoln 9, Cleburne 7 – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs overcame a late deficit with a three-run eighth inning and walked away with a 9-7 win against the Cleburne Railroaders.

Cleburne was leading 7-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning before the Saltdogs rallied to take the lead. 3B Chase Simpson provided the firepower as his two-run home run gave Lincoln the lead and RF Angel Reyes added the final run as C Dashenko Ricardo singled with two outs. Reliever J.R. Bunda came on to pitch the top of the ninth and gave up one hit but earned the save, his fifth of 2018.

3B Patrick Palmeiro led the way at the plate as he went 3-for-5 including a grand slam, his fifth home run of the season. RF Cameron Monger added a pair of hits, a run and an RBI.

For the Railroaders, both 1B Nathaniel Maggio and Ricardo had three hits while Simpson went 2-for-4 with two homers.

 

St. Paul 2, Sioux Falls 1 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints gave up just two hits as they topped the Sioux Falls Canaries 2-1 on Friday night at CHS Field.

The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the first inning as 2B Josh Allen scored on a single from 1B Brady Shoemaker. That lead held until the top of the seventh inning when 3B Burt Reynolds, who reached base in the leadoff spot thanks to an error, scored as C Maxx Garrett singled to left field. But the Saints took the lead right back in the bottom of the frame as RF Max Murphy touched home after DH Jayce Boyd reached on an error.

Starting pitcher Matt Solter pitched six innings and allowed one hit and was on the hook for the Canaries one run but it was reliever Beck Wheeler that was credited for the win as he threw the seventh an eighth innings. Reliever Tom Wilhelmsen nabbed the save for pitching the ninth.

 

Gary SouthShore 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats utilized a solid performance from the mound to drop the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2-1.

Starting pitcher Jeff McKenzie (2-0) led the way as he worked eight innings and gave up just the one run on three hits while also striking out three batters. Reliever Myles Smith earned his second save of the year for tossing the ninth inning, allowing one run and striking out three. 2B Maikol Gonzalez (2-for-3) was the only RedHawk able to score as he hit a solo home run in the sixth.

For the RailCats, DH Colin Willis went 2-for-4 and scored once, C Wilfredo Gimenez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and SS Andy DeJesus added an RBI as well.

 

Winnipeg 5, Chicago 2 — Box Score

A three-run fifth inning helped propel the Winnipeg Goldeyes to a 5-2 victory against the Chicago Dogs.

Winnipeg struck first in the bottom of the second as 3B Jordan Edgerton doubled home 1B Josh Mazzola (2-for-4). The Goldeyes added three crucial runs in the fifth; the first came as RF Jordan Ebert drew a bases-loaded walk. In the next at-bat, SS Andrew Sohn (3-for-4) and DH Reynaldo Rodriguez scored as C Kevin Garcia (2-for-4) singled.

Both of Chicago’s runs came in the top of the eighth inning when RF Jonathan Moroney (2-for-3) doubled to left field. Mazzola tallied the final run of the night in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run, his third of the season.

 

Kansas City 11, Wichita 3 – Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones racked up 14 hit and turned that into 11 runs on the way to an 11-3 win over the Wichita Wingnuts.

Seven T-Bones had at least one hit on the night and five of them had multi-hit games. C Adrian Nieto led the way as he went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. The middle of the lineup – 3B Zach Walters, DH Cal Towey and LF Dexture Kjerstad – each had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. In the leadoff spot, 2B Dylan Tice also had a pair of hits and an RBI.

For the Wingnuts, RF Zach Nehrir, 3B Abel Nieves and C John Nester each also had a pair of hits.

 

Sioux City 12, Texas 3 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers ran their league-leading winning streak to eight games and their overall record to 17-4 as they toppled the Texas AirHogs 12-3.

For the Explorers, LF Luis Durango and SS Nate Samson had two hits and three RBIs on the night. RF Michael Lang went 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored and both CF Jay Austin and 2B Jose Sermo also added a pair of hits.

For the AirHogs, 3B Stewart Ijames provided two runs with a solo home run in the top of the first and an RBI fielder’s choice in the third.
