Winnipeg 6, Lincoln 3 (10 Innings) – Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes edged the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-3 in extra innings thanks to a three-run home run from LF Grant Heyman.

Heyman effectively ended the game with a three-run homer but Lincoln’s 2B T.J. Bennett opened the game with one to give the Saltdogs the early lead. Those were the only runs Lincoln scored on the night and the Goldeyes worked their way back into the game, starting with a pair of runs in the second. C Tyler Baker tied the score with a lead-off home run in the seventh and the score stayed at 3-3 until the 10th.

In the extra frame, 3B Josh Mazzola hit a two-out single and 2B Tucker Nathans reached on an error before Heyman stepped to the plate. He turned on the 0-1 delivery for his 13th homer of the season. The Saltdogs went down in order in the bottom of the frame.

 

Texas 2, Gary SouthShore 1 – Box Score

The Texas AirHogs broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning to topple the Gary SouthShore RailCats 2-1.

The AirHogs struck first on the night when RF Stewart Ijames (2-for-4) scored on a sacrifice fly from 3B Luo Jinjun in the bottom of the second inning. Gary SouthShore tied things up in the top of the fourth though as 2B Garrett Copeland drew a bases-loaded walk that moved LF Ronnie Mitchell across the plate.

In the eighth, 1B Correlle Prime hit a lead-off single and scored in the next at-bat as Ijames doubled and that run proved to be the difference.

For the night, eight AirHog batters combined for 12 hits while the RailCats were held to just two.

 

St. Paul 7, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints held off a late surge from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to pick up a 7-5 win.

The RedHawks scored first with 1B Chris Jacobs’ (2-for-3) second inning home run but the Saints took over in the fourth when 1B Nathaniel Maggio hit a two-run shot. In the fifth, 3B Dante Bichette Jr. hit an RBI single and DH Brady Shoemaker (2-for-5) scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.

The Saints added three more runs in the seventh when SS Jake Smith (2-for-5) singled in two runs and scored when RF Max Murphy singled in the next at-bat. C Justin O’Conner and LF Burt Reynolds each had three hits for the Saints.

The RedHawks put up four runs in the bottom of the ninth before a strikeout end the threat and the game.

 

Cleburne 5, Sioux City 3 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders built a 5-0 lead and made it stand up for a 5-3 win against the Sioux City Explorers.

The Railroaders started the party in the bottom of the first inning when SS Angel Rosa (3-for-4) scored as 2B Angelo Gumbs (2-for-4) bounced out. Rosa scored again in the third, this time own his own with a solo home run, and he pushed another run across in the fifth with an RBI single. In the sixth, Gumbs hit a two-run shot to push the lead to 5-0.

The Explorers started to rally in the seventh when 1B Dexture McCall doubled home 2B Blake Schmit and, in the ninth, 3B Jose Sermo (3-for-4) hit a lead-off home run (his 14th of 2018) and C Dylan Kelly added an RBI single but the comeback came up short two batters later.

 

Chicago 5, Wichita 3 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs knocked off the Wichita Wingnuts 5-3 with the help of an early lead on Wednesday night.

The Dogs took the lead in the first inning when CF Kenny Wilson scored as 3B Trey Vavra (2-for-4) hit into a double play and they added three more runs in the third as Vavra had an RBI single and DH Joe Benson (2-for-4) doubled home another pair. Benson also added the final run of the night for the Dogs with a lead-off home run in the sixth inning.

The Wingnuts scored one run in each of the final three innings as 2B Logan Watkins homered and DH Angel Reyes and 1B Abel Nieves each scored on wild pitches.

Starting pitcher Trevor Simms earned the win for Chicago as he went seven innings and gave up one run on two hits while striking out nine batters.

 

Kansas City 12, Sioux Falls 5 – Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones turned 17 hits into 12 runs on the way to a 12-5 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

All nine T-Bones had at least one hit on the night and five of them posted multi-hit games. CF Todd Cunningham had the most impressive game at the dish as he went 4-for-6, was just a double shy of the cycle, had three RBIs and scored a run. 3B Mason Davis added a 3-for-6 showing with three RBIs and three runs scored. DH Colin Walsh, C Adrian Nieto and LF Keith Curcio each added a pair of hits.

For the Canaries, LF Mike Hart went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and 3B Mitch Glasser also added a trio of hits and a pair of runs scored.
