CANARIES OUTLAST DOGS IN 12-INNING SHOWDOWN

Sioux Fall 17, Chicago 14 (12 Innings) — Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (8-3) outlasted the Chicago Dogs 17-14 in a five-plus hour extra innings affair Thursday night. 

It was a double from 2B Ryan Long that cleared the bases in the top of the 12th inning that provided the eventual game-winning runs for the Canaries. 3B Damek Tomscha drew a walk, C Clint Coulter doubled and LF Mike Hart (3-for-5) was intentionally walked to load up the bases in the top of the 12th and after RF Logan Landon was retired, Long delivered his second hit of the night to put the Canaries in front. 

The Dogs brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 12th but 3B Joey Terdoslavich flew out harmlessly to right field to end the game. 1B K.C. Hobson led the Dogs with five RBI on the night. 

The Canaries led 8-1 after the top of the second inning but the Dogs never went away, eventually tying the game in the fourth at 8-8. Sioux Falls tried to pull away again with four runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth but the Dogs matched with three runs in both the seventh and eighth frames. The two teams combined for 32 runs on 30 hits for the game. 

 

Milwaukee 7, Fargo-Moorhead 1 — Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen (7-4) scored seven unanswered runs to take a Thursday afternoon contest from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-1.

Fargo-Moorhead scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning when CF Brennan Metzger scored as 1B Correlle Prime bounced into a double play. The Milkmen took control in the third when 2B Dylan Tice (2-for-5) doubled home SS Aaron Hill (3-for-3, 3 R) and then scored alongside CF Brett Vertigan (3-for-5) when DH Mason Davis singled in the next at-bat.

The Milkmen added four more insurance runs the rest of the way, including a solo home run from Hill, a pair of sac flies and another RBI base hit from Tice.

Starting pitcher David Holmberg (2-1) threw 6.1 innings and allowed one run on seven hits while striking out three batters in the winning effort.

 

St. Paul 7, Winnipeg 4 — Box Score

The St. Pauk Saints (6-6) dug themselves out of an early hole to topple the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-4 on Thursday night at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Goldeyes built an early 3-0 by scoring one run in each of the first three frames but the Saints found the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as 3B Chesny Young (fourth straight 3-hit game) singled home CF Mikey Reynolds (2-for-4) and 1B John Silviano (3-for-4) singled home SS Nate Samson in back-to-back at bats. The Saints tied the score in the fourth with a C Mitch Ghelfi sac fly and took the lead in the fifth with a 2B Josh Allen (2-for-4) solo shot.

The Saints padded the lead in the seventh as Allen doubled home Young and Silviano and then scored when RF Max Murphy (2-for-4) singled.

The Goldeyes attempted to rally in the ninth as CF Darnell Sweeney hit his third double of the night to score SS Wes Darvill and put the tying run at the plate with just one away. But Reliever Jameson McGrane struck out RF Logan Hill and forced 1B Kyle Martin to pop out to third to end the game.
