BIG NINTH-INNING EFFORT PUSHES SAINTS TO WIN

St. Paul 7, Fargo-Moorhead 6 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints put together a massive five-run rally in the ninth inning to claim a 7-6 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.

The Saints were trailing 6-2 heading into the top of the ninth inning but flipped the game on its head. CF Jake Smith (2-for-3) scored the first run of the rally when LF Burt Reynolds drew a bases-loaded walk and then RF Maxx Murphy (2-for-3) scored in the next at-bat when 1B Dan Johnson also earned a base on balls. In the next at-bat, 3B Dante Bichette Jr. singled home both 1B/2B Noah Perio Jr. and Reynolds.

2B Luke Petterson scored the final run of the surge when SS Anthony Phillips lifted a sac fly.

For the RedHawks, both CF Devan Ahart went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and SS Yhoxian Medina went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

 

Sioux City 4, Winnipeg 0 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers blanked the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-0 thanks to the efforts of starting pitcher Justin Vernia.

Vernia worked 7.1 innings and allowed just three hits and one walk all while striking out nine batters. Offensively, the Explorers backed up Veria with a pair of two run innings. In the fourth inning, DH Daniel Jackson singled home both SS Nate Samson and Jay Baum to take a 2-0 lead. In the next inning, C Dylan Kelly followed suit with a two-RBI single that plated CF Jay Austin (4-for-5) and Samson.

Those were the only runs scored on the night. For the Goldeyes, three different batters – 3B Tommy Mendonca, 2B Jordan Ebert and C Tyler Baker – each had one hit.

 

Texas 5, Cleburne 4 – Box Score

A wild ninth inning led to a 5-4 walk-off win for the Texas AirHogs against the Cleburne Railroaders Tuesday night.

The AirHogs led 4-2 heading into the final half inning but the Railroaders worked back into the game with a pair of runs. 2B Trevor Sealey singled home DH Blake Grant-Parks (2-for-4) and then scored himself on a wild pitch two batters later. In the bottom of the ninth, CF Lu Zhenhong (1-for-1) singled with one out and then two second as OF Dillon Thomas (2-for-5) singled.

1B/LF Correlle Prime (3-for-5) singled in the next at-bat to plate Zhenzong for the walk off run.

 

Chicago 7, Gary SouthShore 5 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs scored a pair of unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away from the Gary SoutShore RailCats 7-5.

The night was tied at 5-5 after the fifth inning where the RailCats’ CF D.K Carey scored when C Andy Paz doubled and, in the bottom of the inning, LF Tony Rosselli blasted a two-run home run. In the sixth, 2B Edwin Arroyo lifted a sac fly to push the Dogs in front and in the seventh, CF Joe Benson scored an insurance run on a wild pitch.

For the night, Chicago DH Trey Vavra went 3-for-5 and other Dogs added a pair of hits including Rosselli who had three RBI.

 

Lincoln 11, Wichita 4 – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs racked up 15 hits on the way to an 11-4 win against the Wichita Wingnuts on Tuesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Eight of the nine batters in the Saltdogs’ order recorded at least one hit and five of them had more than one hit. 1B Curt Smith and LF Brandon Jacobs each ended up with three hits and each had a home run. DH Angel Reyes, CF T.J. Bennett (who also homered) and 3B Curt Simpson all added a pair of hits.

For the Winguts, CF Zach Nehrir went 3-for-4 with three RBI, a home run and two runs scored.

 

Sioux Falls 14, Kansas City 1 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries turned 13 hits into 14 runs as they topped the Kansas City T-Bones 14-1.

Seven of the nine Sioux Falls batters recorded hits in the game and six of them each had two hits. C Maxx Garrett went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored with a pair of home runs, giving him four on the year. 2B Jordan Dean and 3B Patrick Fiala also had two hits in the game and also left the yard with homers.

For the T-Bones, SS Taylor Featherson, 1B C Adrian Nieto and 3B Mason Davis each went 2-for-4 on the night and Featherson hit his second roundtripper of the season.
