FOUR RUN FOURTH PROPELS RAILROADERS OVER AIRHOGS

Cleburne

Cleburne 5, Texas 3- Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (16-25) used a big fourth inning to top the Texas AirHogs (9-31) by a score of 5-3 on Monday.

The AirHogs scored first on a Corelle Prime two-run home run (2) in the top of the second inning. The Railroaders’ Patrick Palmeiro hit a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to one. Texas scored one in the top of the fourth, but Cleburne did more than answer back.

In the bottom of the frame, Trevor Sealy and Levi Scott hit back-to-back single to lead off the inning to set the table for Palmeiro who scored Sealy with a single. In the next at bat, Cameron Monger hit a three-run home run to bring the game to its final score.

Josh Hodges (1-1) was awarded the win after giving up three earned in six innings of work. Shawn Blackwell pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (6).

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, St. Paul 0- Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (21-20) broke a three-game losing streak on Monday, defeating the St. Paul Saints (22-21) 4-0.

RedHawks starter, DJ Brown (5-0) made a number of big pitches during his seven scoreless innings of work. None were bigger than his bases loaded strikeout to end the bottom of the fourth.

Brennan Metzger drove in Tim Colwell with a double to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Metzger picked up another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the top of the third to make it 2-0. Colwell picked up an RBI double in the fifth and later scored to bring the game to its final score.

 

Kansas City 3, Sioux Falls 2- Box Score

The Kansas City T-Bones (26-15) came back to defeat the Sioux Falls Canaries (16-25) 3-2 on Monday.

The Canaries grabbed a 2-0 lead with back-to-back RBIs by Jordan Smith and Blake Schmidt in the top of the third. The T-Bones cut the lead to one in the bottom of the frame with a Nick Torres RBI single.

Kansas City scored on an error to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and took the lead in the eighth in the next inning on a Adrian Nieto RBI double.

Cody Winiarski (1-0) was awarded the win and Carlos Diaz was awarded the save (7).

 

Gary SouthShore 5, Chicago 1- Box Score

Daniel Minor led the Gary SouthShore Railcats (23-19) to a 5-1 win over the Chicago Dogs (14-28) on Monday.

Minor (7-2) gave up just the one run in seven innings of work to outdule Dogs’ starter, Scott Barnes, who gave up two in seven innings of work.  

Chicago took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Trey Vavra RBI single. The Railcats answered in the next frame with a two-run Alex Crosby home run (4).

Gary SouthShore scored three in the top of the eighth with two coming on an Andy Paz single to bring the game to its final score.

 

Sioux City 5, Winnipeg 4- Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers (33-10) held on to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes (21-22) by a score of 5-4 on Monday.

The Goldeyes jumped out to a 1-0 on a solo home run by Dave Sappelt in the top of the first. The Explorers went on to score five unanswered (two in the second, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth) to take a 5-1 lead into the sixth inning.

Winnipeg pushed, scoring two on an error in the sixth and one on a Reggie Abercrombie single in the seventh to cut the deficit ot one. However, the Sioux City bullpen was able to settle down and hold the Goldeyes offense scoreless for the remainder of the game.Keith Picht (3-2) was awarded the win after giving up three runs (two earned) in 5.1 innings of work. Eric Karch pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save (6).
