CUBS PURCHASE CONTRACT OF T-BONES’ BUCKELEW

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced today the Chicago Cubs purchased the contract of left-handed pitcher James Buckelew.

In 2018, Buckelew pitched 18.2 innings in six games for the T-Bones with a 2-1 record, 6.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts. He joined the T-bones after a short stint with the AAA New Orleans Baby Cakes, where in six games he was 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA. Buckelew also played two quick games with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp before heading to Kansas City.

In 2014, Buckelew began his career with the Marlins of the Gulf Coast League. The Georgia native went 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA.

In 2015, Buckelew spent time with the Greensboro Grasshoppers playing in 43 games with a 6-4 record and 3.72 ERA. In 2016, he played for two teams. 31 games were spent with the Jupiter Hammerheads where he had a 5-2 record with a 2.74 ERA and he played one game with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

In 2017, Buckelew again split his time between the Jupiter Hammerheads and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp of the Southern League, playing in 31 games with a combined 2-8 record and an average ERA of 2.52.

Buckelew is the 33rd Kansas City player to have his contract purchased while with the T-Bones. In May, the Washington Nationals purchased the contract of outfielder Adam Brett Walker and the New York Mets purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Cody Martin.
