Winnipeg 8, Sioux Falls 1 – Box
A five-run fourth inning helped push the Winnipeg Goldeyes past the Sioux Falls Canaries in front of 5,391 crowd celebrating Canada Day at the ballpark. Starter Mikey O’Brien threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out eight batters. LF Richard Hoopii-Haslam led the offensive charge going 2-for-4 with three RBI and was one of four Goldeyes to record two hits. For Sioux Falls, 1B David Bergin went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Lincoln 1, Fargo-Moorhead 0 – Box
Lincoln starter Jeff McKenzie threw eight scoreless innings and 3B Luis Alen’s RBI groundout helped the Saltdogs secure a 1-0 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Reliever Evan Reed logged the save throwing a scoreless ninth inning. For Lincoln, SS Dainer Moreira and RF Austin Darby each had two hits. For Fargo-Moorhead, starter Taylor Stanton provided an excellent outing allowing one run over 7.1 innings.
Kansas City 5, St. Paul 1 – Box
Kansas City outhit St. Paul 11-3 to guide the T-Bones past the Saints 5-1. Starter Mike Kickham threw eight scoreless innings, allowing just two hits to earn his first win of the year. T-Bones’ 2B Brett Wiley paced the offense going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. For St. Paul, 3B Nate Hanson went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Gary SouthShore 3, Sioux City 2 – Box
The Gary SouthShore RailCats held off a two-run rally in the ninth inning to defeat the Sioux City Explorers 3-2. RailCats’ starter Richard Castillo hurled seven innings without allowing an earned run, scattering four hits. For Gary SouthShore, C Michael Falsetti went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sioux City CF Matty Johnson also had two hits out of the leadoff spot.
Wichita 7, Joplin 2 – Box
Four Wingnuts’ homeruns helped secure Wichita’s 7-2 win over the Joplin Blasters. Reliever Jesse Pratt received the win throwing three scoreless innings. RF Brent Clevlen blasted his ninth home run of the year as Wichita outhit Joplin 9-8. For the Blasters, LF Willie Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a home run.
Laredo 9, Texas 8 – Box
Laredo scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Lemurs came back to beat the Texas AirHogs 9-8. Lemurs’ 3B Cesar Valera and LF Ty Morrison had three hits each. Reliever Scott Garner logged the win and save hurling two scoreless innings. For Texas, SS Juan Sanchez went 3-for-5 with a double.
