Laredo 9, Texas 2 – Box
With the score tied at 1-1 through four innings, the Laredo Lemurs took full control as they scored two runs in the fifth and three more sixth to take a 6-1 lead and would go on to win 9-2 over the Texas AirHogs. Laredo 1B Jesus Posso went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI while CF Drew Martinez had a 1-for-2 night with two walks and four runs scored. Lemurs starting pitcher Troy Marks threw six superb innings en route to his first win of the year. Marks allowed an earned run on three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. The victory by Laredo was their fifth straight and are now only a ½ game behind Wichita in the South Division.
Sioux Falls 7, Winnipeg 6 – Box
The Sioux Falls Canaries scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to rally from a 5-4 deficit and beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes by a 7-6 score. Sioux Falls had four batters in the contest with multi-hit games including 1B Jake Taylor who went 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Canaries SS Blake Schmit collected three hits and scored two runs while RF J.C. Linares had a 2-for-5 night with a run scored and a RBI. Sioux Falls reliever Billy Waltrip tossed an inning of relief and collected his first win of the season. Waltrip gave up an earned run on a hit along with a walk.
Sioux City 6, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box
Sioux City erased an early 2-0 deficit with four runs in the third inning and went on to defeat the Gary SouthShore RailCats by a 6-4 final. Explorers CF Matty Johnson went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI while RF Michael Lang collected a double and three RBI. Sioux City 3B Tommy Mendonca chipped in with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Explorers starting pitcher Bryan Escanio allowed three earned runs on three hits in seven innings pitched to pick-up his second victory. Escanio walked three batters and struck out six. For Gary SouthShore in defeat, CF Brennan Metzger plated two runs in a 2-for-3 night.
Wichita 12, Joplin 2 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts had a 3-1 lead after 2 ½ innings of play and would roll to a 12-2 win over the Joplin Blasters. Wichita RF Brent Clevlen had a monster night at the plate going 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and five RBI. Wingnuts 3B Zack Cox added three hits, including a home run and three runs scored and 2B Christian Stringer drew two walks and plated three runs. Wichita starter Eddie Medina received plenty of run support to notch his first win of the season. Medina went seven innings giving up an earned run on six hits.
St. Paul 3, Kansas City 3 (Suspended – Bottom 5)
The game between St. Paul and Kansas City was suspended due to rain with the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game will be completed on Sunday, July 3 beginning at 5:15 PM. The regularly scheduled game will follow the completion of the suspended game.
Fargo-Moorhead at Lincoln (Postponed – Rain)
The game between Fargo-Moorhead and Lincoln was postponed due to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, July 3 beginning at 2:05 PM.
