Wichita 4, Winnipeg 3 – Box Score
3B Chase Simpson hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Wichita Wingnuts a 4-3 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Winnipeg drew first blood in the top of the third when 3B Josh Mazzola (3-for-4) plated CF Reggie Abercrombie with a single but LF Tony Thomas’ (2-for-4) RBI double in the fourth leveled the score. The Wingnuts pulled ahead 3-1 in the sixth as Thomas tripled home RF Angel Reyes (2-for-3) and then scored in the next at-bat on a pass ball.
The Goldeyes tied things up again in the eighth with back-to-back RBI base hits from Mazzola and pinch hitter Josh McAdams, setting the stage for a dramatic finale. Simpson led off in the ninth and turned on a 2-2 delivery for his 12th home run of the season.
Sioux City 19, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers exploded for 12 runs in the ninth inning to pull away from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 19-5.
The 12 runs in a single inning ties the American Association record which was set by the St. Paul Saints against Sioux City back in July of 2007. On Tuesday night, the Explorers were already leading 7-5 before adding a dozen insurance runs. Sioux City sent 16 batters to the plate, recorded eight hits, drew three walks and benefitted from two wild pitches and an error. 3B Jose Sermo (3-for-5) had five RBIs in the inning including a grand slam for his second home run of the night.
CF Luis Durango also had a big night at the plate as he went 4-for-6, scoring twice and 1B Dean Green added three hits, a pair of runs and a pair of RBIs.
For the RedHawks, 2B Maikol Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and LF Brennan Metzer scored three times.
Texas 5, Cleburne 4 – Box Score
The Texas AirHogs used a three-run seventh inning to move past the Cleburne Railroaders 5-4.
The AirHogs were trailing 4-2 heading into the seventh inning thanks to a 2B Trevor Sealey (2-for-5) RBI double in the third and back-to-back RBI base hits from Sealey and 1B Levi Scott (3-for-5) in the fifth. But in the seventh, CF Javion Randle (3-for-5) plated DH Greg Golson (2-for4-) as he reached on a fielder’s choice and, later in the frame, he scored alongside 1B Correlle Prime (3-for-4) when LF Ni Ziyang (2-for-5) singled for what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Texas’ first two runs came as Golson scored on an error in the third and RF Stewart Ijames doubled home SS Casio Grider in the fourth.
DH Angelo Gumbs added a pair of hits for the Railroaders on the night.
St. Paul 6, Sioux Falls 4 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints overcame an early deficit to knock off the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-4 and remain atop the North Division.
Sioux Falls’ DH David Bergin opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, and after C Justin O’Conner briefly tied the game in the second with a solo home run, the Canaries added three more runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead back. CF Jordan Smith lifted a sac fly and 2B Mitch Glasser hit an RBI single and then later scored on a RF Jabari Henry (2-for-4) single to take the 4-1 lead.
But the Saints began chipping away at the lead in the third with an RBI single from 3B Dante Bichette Jr. (2-for-4) and 2B Zach Walters eventually tied the score with a two-run homer in the fifth. CF Kyle Barrett (3-for-5) delivered the winning runs with a two-run double in the sixth and the bullpen took care of business from there.
Kansas City 2, Lincoln 0 – Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones blanked the Lincoln Saltdogs 2-0 on Tuesday night despite being outhit 7-5 on the road.
3B Mason Davis’ seventh home run of 2018 gave the T-Bones the lead in the top of the third inning and Davis (2-for-4) scored again in the fifth on a single from 1B Noah Perio Jr. DH Colin Walsh and SS Anthony Phillips also had hits in the game for the T-Bones.
Starting pitcher Tommy Collier earned the win for throwing seven innings, giving up six hits and recording nine strikeouts. Reliever Cody Winiarski picked up his 11th save of the year. For the Saltdogs, starting pitcher Joe Bircher took the hard-luck loss, going the distance and allowing the two earned runs on five hits and striking out five batters.
2B Cesar Valera and 1B Dan Johnson each had a pair of hits for Lincoln.
Gary SouthShore 5, Chicago 1 (Game 1/7 Innings) – Box Score
Starting pitcher Lars Ligouri tossed a complete game to pave the way for the Gary SouthShore RailCats to beat the Chicago Dogs 5-1 in game one of their Tuesday twin bill.
Ligouri (3-7) finished off the seven-inning game after facing 27 batters, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out five batters and walking just one. Chicago’s only run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth when RF Rubi Silva scored on a fielder’s choice from SS Stephen Perez.
For the RailCats, LF Tillman Pugh, DH Colin Willis and CF D.K. Carey each had a pair of his and Willis finished the night with a triple, a home run and three RBIs. Carey had two doubles and Pugh had one.
Gary SouthShore 5, Chicago 1 (Game 2/7 Innings) – Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats swept their doubleheader with the Chicago Dogs by taking game two by the same score as game one, 5-1.
LF Colin Willis (2-for-4), who homered in game one, homered again in the fourth inning of game two to give the RailCats a 1-0 lead. 3B Randy Santiesteban (2-for-3) hit a grand slam in the next inning to push the score to 5-0. Willis now has eight home runs on the season and Santiesteban has seven.
1B Dalton Blaser put the Dogs on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a sac fly that plated RF Rubi Silva, who scored the team’s only runs in each of the games on Tuesday.
