Wichita 2, Grand Prairie 1 – Box

Wichita 1B Dustin Geiger’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning plated LF TJ Mittelstaedt from third base and lifted the Wingnuts to a 2-1 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs. Geiger and Mittelstaedt each had 1-for-2 days at the plate and starting pitcher Charlie Lowell tossed five solid innings allowing an earned run on three hits. The Wichita bullpen was terrific as they threw four shutout innings giving up only three hits and fanning seven batters. Wingnuts reliever Al Yevoli notched the victory as he gave up two hits in an inning of work while Wichita closer Matt Nevarez allowed a hit in the ninth inning and collected his third save of the season.

Sioux Falls 6, Fargo-Moorhead 3 – Box

Sioux Falls scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and go on to a 6-3 victory of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Sioux Falls LF Brian Humphries and C Richard Stock each had two hits in the game with Humphries scoring a run and driving in two. Canaries’ leadoff hitter Harrison Kain launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the third inning. Sioux Falls reliever Chase Johnson picked up the win tossing 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and two walks.  

Gary SouthShore 3, Kansas City 2 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)Box

Gary SouthShore held off a late rally by Kansas City to take game one of the doubleheader by a 3-2 final. RailCats RF Drew Martinez and SS Ryan Brockett each had two hits in the contest with Brockett driving in two runs. Gary SouthShore starting pitcher Charle Rosario threw six solid innings en route to his second victory of the season. Rosario gave up an earned run on three hits and fanned four hitters. For Kansas City in the loss, 2B Ryan Cavan hit his first home run of the season.

Amarillo 7, Lincoln 6 Box

After falling behind 5-2 through 3 ½ innings, the Amarillo Thunderheads scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-5 advantage and would go to win 7-6 over the Lincoln Saltdogs and sweep the three game series. Amarillo RF Logan Vick led the offense going 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI and two walks. Thunderheads SS Juan Martinez chipped in with three hits and 3B Taylor Smart went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Amarillo reliever Billy Petrick notched the victory tossing three scoreless innings allowing a hit and a walk and striking out three Lincoln batters. For the Saltdogs in defeat, CF Jon Gaston went 2-for-4 with a home run.
