BLASTERS GET WALKOFF WIN OVER GOLDEYES

Joplin 3, Winnipeg 2 – Box

Designated hitter Jake Taylor’s two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning wins the game for Joplin as the Blasters beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 3-2. Taylor had two hits on the night to go along with his two RBI. Joplin CF Oscar Mesa and 3B Omar Luna each went 2-for-4 in the game while SS Maikol Gonzalez scored two runs. Blasters reliever Winston Abreu picked up the win tossing a scoreless ninth inning and giving up two hits. For Winnipeg in defeat, 1B Casey Haerther had three hits.

Gary SouthShore 3, Kansas City 2 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and beat the Kansas City T-Bones 3-2 and sweep the doubleheader. Gary SouthShore LF Adam Taylor led the offense going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI. RailCats 2B Zac Mitchell and RF Roger Bernal each chipped in with a hit and a RBI. Gary SouthShore reliever A.J. Quintero collected the win as he went 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and a walk. RailCats reliever Jessie Snodgrass tossed a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

St. Paul 2, Laredo 1 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) – Box

St. Paul starting pitcher Robert Coe tossed a terrific game in the Saints 2-1 win over the Laredo Lemurs in game one of the doubleheader. Coe went six solid innings giving up an earned run on two hits and striking out three batters. St. Paul reliever Ryan Rodebaugh allowed a hit in 2/3 of an inning and notched his second save of the season. The Saints scored both of their runs in the second inning on RBI singles by C Vince DiFazio and SS Anthony Phillips. DiFazio and Phillips each went 1-for-3 in the game.

St. Paul 8, Laredo 0 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) Box

It was all St. Paul in this one as the Saints downed the Laredo Lemurs 8-0 and completed the sweep of the doubleheader. The St. Paul 4-5 hitters of DH Ian Gac and RF Mike Kvasnicka went a combined 6-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, four runs scored and a RBI. Saints C Joey Paciorek and SS Anthony Phillips drove in two runs apiece while 3B Steve Nikorak plated two runs. St. Paul starting pitcher Pedro Hernandez notched the victory as he gave up two walks and three hits in five innings of work.

 Sioux City 4, Quebec 2 Box

Sioux City scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 4-0 lead and the Explorers would go on to win 4-2 over the Quebec Capitales of the Can-Am League. Explorers’ starter Jeff Marquez threw seven solid innings en route to his second win of the season. Marquez gave up two walks and four hits and struck out four Quebec hitters. Sioux City SS Noah Perio went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead the way offensively. Explorers RF Michael Lang and 3B Tommy Mendonca each chipped in with two hits on the night.
