Amarillo 16, Lincoln 8 — Box Score
The Amarillo Thunderheads and the Lincoln Saltdogs combined for 32 hits on Saturday and Amarillo turned their 16 hits into 16 runs as they doubled up the Saltdogs 16-8.
Six Thunderheads and six Saltdogs had multi-hit games and four players had three hits. For the Thunderheads, LF Drew Heid went 3-for-6 with an RBI, SS Juan Martinez was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored and both RF Logan Vick and C Jordan Guida had two hits and three RBI. For Lincoln, RF Brian Joynt and C Mitch Canham went 3-for-5 and Canham had a team-high two RBI.
Lincoln held the lead early with two runs in the first and another in the second but Amarillo put four runs up in the third to take the lead and secured that lead with six more runs in the fifth. The Thunderheads added another pair of runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth.
Joplin 3, Winnipeg 2 (Game 1 – 7 Innings) — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters took the first game of their Saturday doubleheader with the Winnipeg Goldeyes as SS Maikol Gonzalez singled home CF Gabe Saurez in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk off win.
Winnipeg struck first as 3B Josh Mazzola belted a solo shot in the top of the second but the Blasters took the lead in the third when Suarez scored his first run of the day on a double from LF Oscar Mesa and then Mesa scored on a single from RF Yasser Gomez. In the fifth, the Goldeyes tied things back up as Mazzola scored on a DH Aaron Baker single.
Saurez and Gonzalez each had two hits for the Blasters and Mazzola had a pair to lead the Goldeyes. Reliever Winston Abreu earned the win as he worked the seventh inning without allowing a hit and striking out two batters.
Winnipeg 9, Joplin 1 (Game 2 – 7 Innings) — Box Score
After dropping the first game, the Winnipeg Goldeyes came out hot in the second game with four runs in the first and three more in the second on their way to a 9-1 win over the Joplin Blasters.
Winnipeg RF Brett Krill, who was one of two Goldeyes to have a multi-hit game, hit a three-RBI double in the first inning to give his team a 4-0 lead. In the second inning, LF Nic Jackson hit a three-run home run to extend the Winnipeg lead. The Goldeyes added another pair of runs in the sixth. Joplin scratched out its lone run in the bottom of the seventh and final inning.
Starting pitcher Rob Nixon was credited with the win as he went 6.2 innings and allowed just one run on four hits. He walked just one and struck out four.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Sioux Falls 4 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks clawed their way out of an early 3-0 hole and came back to topple the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-4.
The Canaries put a run on the board in the second and added a pair – one coming from a C Richard Stock solo home run – in the third to take a 3-0 lead. But the RedHawks took one back in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth with a four-run inning. The RedHawks added an insurance run in the eighth when SS Zach Penprase drew a bases-loaded walk.
For the night, each of the first six batters in the RedHawks order scored a run and 3B Michael Antoni, batting in the six-hole, had three hits to lead the team. For the Canaries, Stock also had three hits and SS Jerome Pena added a pair.
Quebec 10, Sioux City 7 — Box Score
The Quebec Capitales pushed past the Sioux City Explorers 10-7 with the help of a seven-run sixth inning.
The game was tied at three runs a piece after five complete innings but the Capitales blew the game open in the sixth as they sent 12 batters to the plate, recorded four hits and plated seven runs.CF Kalian Sams led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a single by C Josue Peley. Quebec added runs on a wild pitch, a pass ball and an error and then DH Jean-Luc Blaquiere capped off the rally with a double that scored three more.
Peley along with 3B Tyler Young and 2B Jonathan Malo each had two hits for the Capitales. Sioux City’s RF Michael Lang had a game-high three RBI and SS Noah Perio as well as LF Tim Colwell added two hits.
Wichita 7, Grand Prairie 2 — Box Score
Five different Wichita Wingnuts had two-hit games as the Wingnuts racked up 12 hits on their way to beating the Grand Prairie AirHogs 7-2.
Leadoff man CF Jayce Ray and 2B Luis Hernandez, batting second, each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. RF T.J. Mittelsaedt went 2-for-3 with an RBI and SS Alberto Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a team-high two RBI. LF Brent Dean also had two hits.
For the AirHogs, LF Chris Elder and RF Victor Ferrante each had two hits. On the bump, starting pitcher Jason Van Skike earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits while picked up four strikeouts.
Kansas City at Gary SouthShore – Postponed (weather)
The game between the Kansas City T-Bones and the Gary SouthShore RailCats was postponed due to inclement weather. The game will be made up Sunday as a part of a double header starting at 2:10 p.m. Central Time.
