WING, BERGIN LEAD SIOUX FALLS TO WIN

Sioux Falls 7, Fargo-Moorhead 3Box

The Sioux Falls Canaries scored three in the top of the ninth inning to break open a close game and breathe easy in the 7-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. With the Canaries clinging to a 4-3 advantage, they added two insurance runs off a 1B David Bergin double. Then an error plated Bergin to make the score 7-3. Other Canaries offensive highlights occurred in the seventh, when 2B Michael Wing’s double scored two, and then Bergin scored Wing with an RBI triple. Wing had a great stat line: 2-for-2, two runs, three RBIs, and three walks.

DH Joe Staley led the RedHawks at the plate. He hit a solo home run and an RBI double. LF Chad Mozingo also added an RBI double. Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Brandon Mann allowed three runs, but he did strike out nine.

Wichita 6, Gary SouthShore 1Box

For two-thirds of the game, the Wichita Wingnuts bats were quiet. They couldn’t scratch across any runs despite the occasional hit. But in the final three innings, the Wingnuts would score six to beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 6-1. In the seventh, 2B Luis Hernandez put Wichita ahead with a two-RBI double. In the eighth, two singles and a wild pitch scored three more, and a 3B TJ Mittelstaedt solo blast in the ninth put the cherry on top. Gary SouthShore’s lone run came from a 2B Zac Mitchell RBI double.

The trio of Wingnuts pitchers really performed well to allow just one run. Starter Charlie Lowell got the win after a quality start of seven innings and just one earned run. Lowell added seven K’s. Daniel Bennett and Brad Mincey came in relief and each pitched a scoreless inning.

Sioux City 10, Lincoln 5Box

A five-run first inning for the Sioux City Explorers set the tone for a lot of runs as they defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-5. DH Brock Kjeldgaard put Sioux City on the board with a two-RBI single in the first. Then RBI singles from 2B Ryan Court and 3B Tommy Mendonca stretched the lead to 5-0. Court finished the game 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs. Lincoln would attempt a small comeback in the eighth but could only score three runs. The Saltdogs got RBI hits from 1B Jeremy Hamilton, RF Brian Joynt and C Ryan Wiggins in the inning.

Jeff Marquez had a stellar outing for Sioux City. In his quality start, he recorded the win after six innings with zero earned runs and five strikeouts.

Laredo 3, Trois-Rivieres 1Box

The Laredo Lemurs took Wednesday’s interleague match with the Trois-Rivieres 3-1 with strong pitching and the bat of CF Dvontrey Richardson. Richardson hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and then brought in the third run in the eighth off a single. RF Kevin Taylor hit a solo homer of his own to score Laredo’s second run. The lone run for Trois-Rivieres came in the second inning when a 1B Jonathan Jones RBI single plated 3B Daniel Mateo.

Lemurs starting pitcher Scott Garner went 6.2 innings and allowed just the one run. Joan Montero and John Brebbia each came in the game for an inning of scoreless relief.

Amarillo at Grand Prairie – Postponed

The game between the Thunderheads and AirHogs was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader on June 29 beginning at 5:05 p.m. from QuikTrip Park.

Kansas City at Joplin – Postponed

The doubleheader between the T-Bones and Blasters was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m. from Joe Becker Stadium.
