Sioux City 5, Lincoln 4 (11 innings)– Box
Sioux City walked off in the 11th inning and won the game 5-4 after CF Matty Johnson scored an unearned run because of an error by the Lincoln shortshop. The Explorers gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning when SS Noah Perio hit an RBI-single. In the third inning, 2B Ryan Court hit a two-RBI single to make the score 3-0 Explorers. The Saltdogs cut the lead to 3-2 in the fourth inning an RBI-single by DH Ryan Wiggins and SS Steve Pascual.
Sioux City extended its lead to 4-2 after a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. But the Saltdogs stayed in the game – the lead was 4-3 in the top of the seventh when RF Brian Joynt hit an RBI-double. And then Lincoln tied it in the top of the ninth at 4-4.
Amarillo 3, Laredo 2 – Box
Amarillo edged Laredo in a close 3-2 game Thursday. The score was 1-0 Amarillo after 3B Juan Martinez hit an RBI-double in the first inning. Laredo tied the score in the top of the fifth, but the Thunderheads quickly regained the lead in the bottom half thanks to an RBI-single by DH Chris Bunting and RBI-double by CF Drew Heid.
Laredo cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning when RF Denis Phipps hit an RBI-single, but that was the last run scored by either side.
Lemur RHP Matt Loosen went six innings, gave up three runs and struck-out eight batters. Thunderhead RHP Chris Balcolm-Miller went six innings, gave up one earned run and struck-out three batters. Laredo had three hits in the game while the Thunderheads had eight.
Trois-Rivieres 6, Grand Prairie 1 – Box
Trois-Rivieres held Grand Prairie to six hits and won the game 6-1. Aigles CF Steve Brown made it 1-0 with an RBI-single in the first inning. Trois-Rivieres then added three more runs in top of the third inning. Brown grabbed his second RBI of the day after hitting a ground-rule double in the inning. AirHogs CF Hayden Jennings cut the lead to 4-1 with an RBI-single in the bottom of the third.
A sacrifice fly extended Trois-Rivieres’ lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning and an unearned run by SS Pedro Lopez in the seventh inning made it 6-1. Aigles RHP Matt Rusch went seven innings, gave up one earned run and struck-out eight batters.
Fargo-Moorhead 3, Sioux Falls 0 – Box
After a complete game by Fargo-Moorhead RHP Tyler Herron, the RedHawks defeated Sioux Falls 3-0 Thursday afternoon. The RedHawks made the score 2-0 in the third inning when LF Chad Mozingo and 1B Joe Bonfe hit RBI-singles. After no scoring through three more innings, Fargo-Moorhead added an insurance run in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI-single by SS Zach Penprase.
As aforementioned, Herron pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits, two walks and struck-out nine batters. Sioux Falls RHP Jeremy Strawn went seven innings, gave up only two earned runs and one walk. Penprase led Fargo-Moorhead with two hits. Sioux Falls had two errors in the game while Fargo-Moorhead had none.
Gary SouthShore 9, Wichita 6 – Box
Gary SouthShore used 14 hits to defeat Wichita 9-6 Thursday afternoon. Early in the game, the Wingnuts took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after a sacrifice fly by DH David Espinosa. But the RailCats quickly moved ahead 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning with 3B J.D. Pulfer’s RBI-double and a pair of RBI-singles by LF Adam Taylor and C Michael Vaughn. Then, Gary SouthShore busted the game open with six runs in the second inning to take an 8-1 advantage. In the inning, Pulfer added a single and two more RBI’s to his total.
But the score was cut to 8-5 in the sixth inning after two-run double by Wichita 2B TJ Mittelstaedt and a two-run homer by 3B Dustin Geiger. Geiger then added a solo shot in the eighth inning to make it 8-6. But the RailCats added an insurance run in the bottom half to put away the game.
Kansas City, Joplin
The doubleheader scheduled between Kansas City and Joplin was postponed due to weather. There is no word yet on when the games will be rescheduled.
