VARCE TOSSES COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT FOR LINCOLN

Lincoln 6, Grand Prairie 0 – Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs shut out the Grand Prairie AirHogs 6-0 thanks to a strong effort from Zach Varce. Varce started and finished the nine inning game for Lincoln, throwing a complete game shutout while striking out three batters, walking two and allowing just six Grand Prairie hits. RF Brian Joynt helped Varce’s cause on the offensive side, going 2-3 at the plate with his seventh home run of the season.

Sioux City 2, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box

The Sioux City Explorers won a pitcher’s dual with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning after scoring the go-ahead run. Sioux City starter Lars Liguori had a solid game for the Explorers, going five innings and allowing one run while working around three walks and seven hits. He missed the win, which went to Sioux City reliever Alex Burnett after he threw a perfect ninth inning that featured one strikeout.

Wichita 12, St. Paul 5 – Box

The Wichita Wingnuts exploded offensively against the St. Paul Saints, and scored 12 runs to take down the Saints 12-5. Wichita outhit St. Paul 17-10 with CF Brent Clevlen leading the team with a four-hit game. Out of the cleanup spot, Clevlen hit his 1oth and 11th homeruns, drove in six runs and scored three of his own to account for more than half of Wichita’s total runs in the game. Three other Wichita batters managed three-hit games: 2B Jake Kahaulelio, 3B Chris McClendon and RF David Amberson.

Sioux Falls 4, Winnipeg 3 – Box

The Sioux Falls Canaries edged out the Winnipeg Goldeyes 4-3 thanks to some timely hitting and a strong effort from the pitching staff. Sioux Falls starter Kyle Ruwe worked seven strong innings and held the Goldeyes to just two runs. He struck out four batters, walked one and worked around eight Winnipeg hits. On the offensive side, 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones had a perfect day at the plate, going 2-2 with his 15th home run of the season and adding three walks.

Gary SouthShore 8, Kansas City 5 – Box

The Gary SouthShore Railcats and the Kansas City T-Bones both managed 10 hits off of eachother, but the RailCats produced with runners on base more often to take down the T-Bones 8-5. RF Drew Martinez, 3B Wally Backman and CF Drew Muran each had two-hit games for the RailCats and paced the team in hitting. Martinez tripled for the 7th time this season and Muran picked up his 8th double. Gary starting pitcher Stephen Bougher picked up the win for Gary after six innings of work, four runs allowed (two earned), three strikeouts and one walk allowed.

Laredo vs. Amarillo (Suspended to due rain)

The game between the Laredo Lemurs and the Amarillo Sox was suspended due to rain in the third inning. It will be completed on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. Central time.
