DURHAM, NC- As the American Association’s current batting leader, Casey Hearther (pictured) of the Winnipeg Goldeyes has been raking in awards. He has been a two-time Player of the Week and was named an American Association All-Star. Now, the Goldeyes’ first baseman has been named the American Association’s Rawlings Player of the Month for the month of July.
Over the past 30 days, Hearther is hitting .422 with nine doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI. On the season, he sits at a .399 average with 25 doubles, nine home runs and 48 RBI. The former UCLA Bruin recorded 14 multi-hit games in July, including three four-hit games. On July 3, he was 4-for-6 in an 18-10 win over the Kansas City T-Bones. Just two days later, Haerther was 4-for-5 with two doubles as Winnipeg beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 8-4. In early July, the Goldeyes achieved a franchise-record 11-game win streak thanks in part to Haerther’s efforts. His third four-hit game came on the final day of the month, a 4-for-5 day against the Sioux Falls Canaries in a 10-7 win.
Hearther had two three-RBI games in July, driving in three against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on July 12 in Winnipeg and July 27 in Gary. He participated in the 2014 All-Star Game on July 29 in his home park in Winnipeg, one of four Goldeyes to start the game.
Winnipeg continues a series with the Sioux Falls Canaries tonight at 7:05 p.m. Central time in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. That game, like every American Association and Can-Am League game, is available to watch live and for free on www.independentprofessionalbaseball.com from InnovaTV.
