DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Amarillo Sox OF Geraldo Valentin (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 10.
Valentin was 15-for-32 this week for the Sox, a week in which Amarillo went 6-1. Valentin only had one extra base hit, a double, but drove in nine. He began the week with a 2-for-5 game in which he had two RBI and scored three runs in a 10-9 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Monday. A day later, the Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico resident was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in an 8-5 win against Sioux Fallls. The Sox closed out the series with Sioux Falls by beating the Canaries 7-6 on Wednesday as Valentin was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Sox traveled to Grand Prairie, Texas to face the Grand Prairie AirHogs for a four-game series, and Valentin was 2-for-4 on Friday as the Sox won 7-1. Saturday saw Valentin go 4-for-7 as the Sox rolled over the AirHogs 17-1. Valentin had an RBI and scored two runs in the game.
On the season, his first with Amarillo, Valentin is 27-for-72 (.375) with one double and 18 RBI. Valentin previously played in the Kansas City Royals’ system, reaching as high as class AA.
