Three doubleheaders highlight action Saturday

A full slate of games plus three doubleheaders led to a busy day for the American Association.

 

Chicago Dogs 5, Sioux City Explorers 2

A three run third inning boosted the Chicago Dogs to a seven inning 5-2 win over Sioux City in game one of a double header Saturday.

3B Johnny Adams hit two home runs, driving in three runs for the Dogs. LF Brennan Metzger hit a solo homer, his second bomb of the season.

SP Michael Bowden recorded the win, striking out seven over five and a third innings. RP Paul Schwendel recorded the save.

1B Jared Walker hit his fifth home run of the season for Sioux City in the loss.

SP Brett Adcock took the loss, striking out eight and giving up for runs.

 

Milwaukee Milkmen 10, Gary SouthShore Railcats 1

A big day at the plate for OF Adam Brett Walker II lifted Milwaukee to a 10-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. 

Walker II recorded three hits and four RBI for Milwaukee (6-4). Walker II and OF Brett Vertigan recorded two doubles each.

SP Ryan Zimmerman struck out six over six innings in the win.

IF Daniel Lingua recorded an rbi-single to bring in the lone run for the RailCats (5-6).

P Jack Alkire recorded the loss, giving up six runs.

 

Kane County Cougars 17, Winnipeg Goldeyes 8

The Kane County Cougars recorded 15 hits and 17 runs in a 17-9 shootout win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes Saturday.

IF Josh Allen, OF Jeffrey Baez and C B.J. Lopez recorded three RBI each to lead Kane County (7-4). P Tom Curtin picked up the win, pitching two innings.

OF Logan Hill recorded three RBI and SS Raul Navarro two RBI for Winnipeg (4-6). P Kyle Thomas gave up four runs in taking the loss.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Houston 1

Fargo-Moorhead defeats Houston 4-1 in a pitchers duel Saturday.

Michael Hope picked up the win for Fargo-Moorhead (7-4). Blake Rogers recorded the save. 

Abdallah Arias took the loss for Houston (1-9), striking out four and giving up two runs in five innings.

IF Will Zimmerman hit a home run and drove in three runs for Fargo-Moorhead.

OF Daniel Aldrich drove in the lone run for Houston.

 

Gary SouthShore RailCats 5, Milwaukee 1 (10 innings)

A four-run 10th inning gave the Gary SouthShore Railcats a 5-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Milwaukee Saturday.

A two-run double by Cameron Comer capped off the 10th inning rally for the RailCats (5-6). Cole Cook struck out seven and picked up the win.

Adam Brett Walker II picked up the lone RBI for Milwaukee. Seth Beard took the loss, giving up four runs in the 10th.

 

Kansas City Monarchs 6, Cleburne Railroaders 2

A big day for OF Gabriel Guerrero resulted in a 6-2 Kansas City Monarch victory over Cleburne.

Guerrero hit a double and a home run, bringing in two runs for the Monarchs (4-5). IF Darnell Sweeney brought in three RBI on one hit.

P Eric Stout struck out nine batters over six innings for the Monarch. Stout picked up the win, allowing three hits and no runs over six innings. 

IF Ramon Hernandez picked up RBI number 11 on the season in the loss for Cleburne (4-7). P Garrett Alexander struck out eight, but gave up five runs in the loss.

 

Sioux City Explorers 5, Chicago Dogs 3

The Explorers were able to earn a doubleheader split with the Chicago Dogs Saturday night. 

A four run fifth inning proved to be the difference for Sioux City (7-3). IF L.T. Tolbert recorded two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tolbert’s two hits were a double and a home run.

P Danny Hrbek recorded the win, pitching one inning of work. The save went to P Matt Pobereyko, who struck out the side in the seventh. 

IF K.C. Hobson recorded a pair of hits and two RBI for Chicago (6-5) in the loss. OF Brennan Metzger scored twice. P Connor Grey struck out five, but gave up four runs (three earned) and took the loss.

 

Sioux Falls Canaries 9, Lincoln Saltdogs 2

A strong performance up and down the lineup led Sioux Falls to a 9-2 win at Lincoln.

OF Jabari Henry hit his first home run of the season and brought in three runs for Sioux Falls (6-4). OF Mike Hart recorded hoe run number four on the year, bringing in two more RBI. OF Wyatt Ulrich added two more RBI for the Canaries. 

Angel Ventura struck out seven batters over six innings to record the win. Robbie Gordon recorded the three inning save, striking out four batters.

IF Josh Altmann and C Zak Taylor brought in the two runs for Lincoln (5-5). Carson Lance took the loss on the mound, striking out five, but giving up four runs. 

 

Winnipeg Goldeyes 5, Kane County Cougars 1

Winnipeg was able to earn the split of the doubleheader with the Kane County Cougars, winning the second game 5-1.

OF Max Murphy picked up a two-run home run to lead Winnipeg (4-6). IF Kevin Lachance picked up three hits, scoring twice and bringing in one run.

Christian James earned the win, pitching five innings allowing one run. 

IF Josh Allen brought in the lone run for Kane County (7-4). P Vance Worley threw the seven inning complete game, striking out six, while giving up five runs, all earned.
