THOMAS HOMERS AGAIN; WINGNUTS TOP AIRHOGS

Wichita 6, Texas 2- Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts (31-20) topped the Texas AirHogs (14-36) by a score of 6-2 on Thursday.

The Wingnuts took a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by the league’s home run leader Tony Thomas (14) in the bottom of the first inning. The AirHogs cut the deficit to one with a Dillon Thomas home run (9) in the top of the fourth, but Wichita answered with a Hunter Clanin sacrifice fly in the next frame. Abel Nieves hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and Clanin hit a two-run home run (2) in the sixth to make it a 6-1 game. Texas scored on an RBI single by Stewart Ijames in the top of the eighth to bring the game to its final score.

Casey Harman (6-2) gave up just one earned run in six innings of work to earn the win.

 

St. Paul 9, Kansas City 2- Box Score

Brady Shoemaker and Chris Nunn led the St. Paul Saints to a 9-2 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones (33-18) on Thursday.

Shoemaker went 2-for-3 at the dish with two home runs, four RBIs, and two walks, while Nunn held the T-Bones to just two runs in his seven-inning start.

The T-Bones held a 2-1 lead until the Kyle Barrett hit a two-run home run (1) in the top of the fifth. The Saints scored two more in the sixth on solo home runs by Shoemaker (5) and Matt Snyder (1). In the seventh, Aaron Gretz scored on a wild pitch and Shoemaker hit a three-run shot to bring the game to its final score.

 

 

Sioux Falls 12, Winnipeg 8- Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (21-29) came away with a 12-8 win in a wild game against the Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-30) on Thursday.

Patrick Fiala hit a solo home run (2) in the top of the third to give the Canaries a 1-0 lead. The Goldeyes tied the game on a Grant Heyman RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Sioux Falls took a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth when Winnipeg cut the deficit to one on a five-run inning that included a grand-slam off the bat of Josh Mazzola (9).

The Canaries reclaimed what proved to be an insurmountable lead with a five-run top of the eighth that included a two-run home run by David Bergin (3) and a solo home run by Jordan Dean (2).

Nicco Blank (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
