Sioux City 5, Texas 0 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers blanked the Texas AirHogs 5-0 thanks to a complete game three-hitter from starting pitcher Pete Tago.

Tago (2-1) needed just 105 pitches, 77 of which were strikes, to finish off the AirHogs. He gave up just three hits, all singles, and struck out 12 batters without allowing a walk. The AirHogs didn’t reach first until the fourth inning and no AirHog made it to second all game long.

Offensively, the Explorers plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning as 3B Jose Sermo (2-for-4) and DH Dexture McCall had RBI singles and 2B Drew Stankiewicz (2-for-4) had a two-RBI double. Sermo hit his 10th home run of the season in the seventh for the final run of the game.


Gary SouthShore 4, Milwaukee 3 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats rallied in the top of the ninth inning to surge past the Milwaukee Milkmen 4-3.

The Milkmen took the early lead when LF Riley Pittman hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the first inning but 2B Thomas Walraven (2-for-4) matched that with a lead-off shot in the second to tie the score. The Milkmen edged back in front in the sixth with a sac fly from DH Dan Ward to take a 2-1 lead. A 3B Randy Santiesteban sac fly tied the score again in the top of the eighth but Ward hit his seventh homer of the year in the bottom of the frame to once again but the Milkmen in front.

In the top of the ninth, Walraven left the yard again to level things up and, two batters later, CF MJ Rookard homered to give the RailCats their first lead. The Milkmen had the winning run on base in the bottom of the frame but the RailCats stifled the rally just in time.


Lincoln 14, Sioux Falls 9 (Completion of 7/28 suspended game) – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs scored in seven of the nine innings on the way to a 14-9 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries in a contest that was suspended Sunday in the fourth inning.

Eight different Saltdogs recorded hits in the game including CF Forrestt Allday who went 4-for-6 with two runs scored. 3B Josh Mazzola, 1B Tyler Moore and SS Ivan Marin each added a pair of hits and Moore and Marin, as well as RF Randolph Oduber, each hit home runs in the game. DH Curt Smith added three RBIs.

For the Canaries, 3B Kevin Taylor, DH Graham Low and C Mike Hart each had a trio of hits and SS Andrew Ely hit his seventh homer of the year.


Lincoln 6, Sioux Falls 5 (Regularly scheduled game/7 Innings) – Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs earned the series sweep against the Sioux Falls Canaries thanks to a grand slam from DH Curt Smith in the top of the seventh and final inning to take a 6-5 win.

The Saltdogs were trailing 4-2 heading into the final frame before loading up the bases. SS Ivan Marin (2-for-2) and 2B Christian Ibarra hit back-to-back one-out singles and CF Forrest Allday drew a walk before LF Cody Regis struck out for the second out of the inning. Smith (3-for-4) was down 0-2 in the count before hitting his 13th home run of the year to put the Saltdogs in front 6-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, LF Burt Reynolds hit a lead-off home run but that would be the final run of the game.

RF Clint Coulter (2-for-4) also homered in the game for the Canaries.



Kansas City 5, St. Paul 2 (Completion of 7/28 suspended game) – Box Score

Rain suspended Sunday’s game between the Kansas City T-Bones and the St. Paul Saints in the second inning and the action resumed Monday night. The T-Bones ended up taking the contest 5-2.

St. Paul had the lead 2-0 when the game was suspended thanks to a two-run home run from 2B Josh Allen in the bottom of the first inning. 2B Dylan Tice (2-for-5) drew one back with a lead-off home run in the top of the third and the T-Bones took the lead in the sixth when Tice homered again, this time a two-run shot.

The T-Bones added another pair of runs in the top of the ninth as DH Daniel Nava hit a solo shot and SS Shawn O’Malley doubled home 1B Casey Gillaspie.


St. Paul 6, Kansas City 3 (Regularly scheduled game/7 Innings) – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints took the second game of their twin bill with the Kansas City T-Bones 6-3 thanks to a big fourth inning.

The T-Bones struck first as DH Christopher Colabello (3-for-3) singled home 3B Mason Davis in the top of the first inning. That lead doubled in the top of the fourth when Colabello hit a lead-off home run but the Saints took control of the contest in the bottom half of the inning. SS Blake Schmit started the scoring with an RBI single and, two batters later, C Mike Aiello was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the next at-bat, CF Dan Motl singled to plate another pair of runs.

In the sixth, 1B Daniel Nava homered for the T-Bones to pull within a run of the Saints but a two-RBI triple from RF Michael Lang (2-for-4) in the bottom of the sixth put things away.


Cleburne 13, Chicago 8 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railraoders (40-26) racked up 15 hits as they topped the Chicago Dogs 13-8.

1B Angel Reyes had monster game at the plate for the Railroaders as he went 5-for-5 with two home runs. CF Zach Nehrir went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. C John Nester (three RBIs), LF Nick Rotola (three RBIs) and DH Hunter Clanin each had a pair of hits for the Railroaders. Nester and Rotola each homered in the game as well.

For the Dogs, RF Victor Roache went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and CF Tony Rosselli also went 2-for-4 with a solo shot.
