SAINTS DOWN MILKMEN ON ONE-HIT SHUTOUT

St. Paul 2, Milwaukee 0 – Box Score

St. Paul starting pitcher John Kilichowski and three relievers combined on a one-hit shutout as the Saints downed Milwaukee, 2-0.

Kilichowski threw the first three innings of the game and walked three batters and struck out three in the 11 batters he faced. The bullpen trio of Karch Kowalczyk, Ken Frosch and Mike Devine finished off the contest by tossing six shutout innings and giving up a combined one hit and three walks. Kowalczyk notched his first win of the year and Devine grabbed his first save.

Right fielder Michael Lang led the offense for St. Paul as he went 2-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Saints DH Brady Shoemaker drew two walks and collected an RBI while 3B Chesny Young and SS Chris Baker each picked-up a hit in four at-bats. St. Paul tallied single runs in the third and eighth innings.

 

Sioux City 4, Lincoln 3 – Box Score

Sioux City continued their torrid play as they won their 11^th straight in a 4-3 decision over Lincoln. The Explorers scored all four of their runs in the first inning and that would be enough behind a solid outing from their pitching staff.

Starting pitcher Carlos Sierra tossed the first 5 1/3 innings for Sioux City and allowed one earned run on six hits and struck out five batters. The bullpen trio of Jose Velez, Nate Gercken and Matt Pobereyko threw the final 3 2/3 innings and combined allowed four hits and fanned four batters. Sierra notched the victory and is now a perfect 6-0 while Pobereyko earned his 19^th save.

Offensively for the Explorers, 1B/DH Dexture McCall went 2-for-4 with an RBI while 3B Jose Sermo had a double in three at-bats and drove in a pair of runs.

Designated hitter Curt Smith had a 2-for-5 night with a run scored in the loss for the Saltdogs.

 

Gary SouthShore 2, Winnipeg 1 – Box Score

Gary SouthShore won their fourth straight contest at they edged past Winnipeg by the score of 2-1. Center fielder John Price Jr. singled home both runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the RailCats the lead for good.

Price Jr. went 1-for-4 with two RBIs while 2B Andy DeJesus and RF Daniel Gardner each tallied a run.

Gary SouthShore received a terrific outing from starting pitcher Trevor Lubking and relievers Andrew Cartier and Ryan Thurston. Lubking tossed 7 2/3 innings allowing only an unearned run on four hits and striking out eight batters. Cartier and Thurston threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and gave up only a pair of hits. Cartier notched his first win while Thurston picked-up his second save.

For the Goldeyes in the loss, RF Tyler Hill went 1-for-4 and scored the team’s lone run.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 9, Chicago 8 – Box Score

First baseman Correlle Prime singled home CF Devan Ahart in the sixth inning to give Fargo-Moorhead a 9-6 lead and that proved to be the difference in the game as the RedHawks held off Chicago, 9-8.

Fargo-Moorhead banged out 13 hits in the contest with eight batters in the lineup collecting at least one. RedHawks DH Chris Jacobs went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs while RF Tim Colwell collected two hits in five at-bats along with a pair of runs and an RBI. Prime and 3B Leobaldo Pina also chipped in two hits apiece for Fargo-Moorhead.

RedHawks pitcher Michael Hope tossed two innings of relief and garnered the victory. Hope gave up five earned runs on six hits and with the win is now 4-0 on the year.

First baseman Keon Barnum launched his league leading 20^th home run of the season in the loss for the Dogs.

 

Sioux Falls 8, Kansas City 6 – Box Score

Sioux Falls jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play and would cruise from there to an 8-6 win over Kansas City.

The Canaries had solid production from their entire lineup tonight as all nine batters collected at least one hit. Sioux Falls SS Andrew Ely went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while 2B Alay Lago had a pair of hits in five at-bats and scored three times. Canaries DH Burt Reynolds also helped the Canaries offense by pick-up a double and driving in three runs. In total, Sioux Falls had 11 hits in the game.

Starter Alex Boshers allowed four earned runs over five innings of work for the Canaries and picked-up the win. The righty allowed two walks and seven hits to go along with two punchouts. Boshers is now 5-3 on the year with the victory.
