DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Kansas City T-Bones OF Cedric Hunter (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 30.
Hunter, recently signed by the T-Bones on July 21, put together four impressive games during an abbreviated All-Star Game week for Kansas City. He was 8-for-16 (.500) over the week, picking up a home run, double, and five RBI.
In Thursday’s doubleheader against the Texas AirHogs, Hunter was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI in game one, with his double coming in walk-off fashion. Trailing 1-0, Hunter doubled home two runners and preserved a no-hitter for his T-Bones teammate Matt Sergey. Kansas City won 2-1. In the nightcap, Hunter went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored as Kansas City won 4-3. A night later, the Decatur, Ga. native hit a solo home run in a 6-2 T-Bones win. He concluded his week on Saturday with a 2-for-5 effort that featured an RBI as Kansas City completed the sweep with a 2-1 win.
Hunter is now hitting .379 (11-for-29) during his time with the T-Bones. He has a double, homer, and six RBI since his signing.
Hunter was a third-round draft pick of the San Diego Padres in 2006 out of Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, Ga. He gradually worked his way up the ladder in the Padres system, making his Major League debut on March 31, 2011. He was 1-for-4 over six games with San Diego in the 2011 season, and bounced between the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, and Atlanta Braves systems from 2012-2015. Hunter split the 2016 season between the Philadelphia Phillies and their Class AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley (Pa.) IronPigs. He appeared in 13 Major League games in 2016, collecting three hits, including a home run. Most recently, Hunter played in 14 games with the Cincinnati Reds’ Class AAA affiliate, the Louisville (Ky.) Bats, in 2017.
