SOX TALLY 25 HITS IN BLOW OUT WIN

Amarillo 17, Grand Prairie 1Box Score

The Amarillo Sox exploded offensively for 25 hits – two shy of the American Association record – and 17 runs as they ran away from the Grand Prairie AirHogs 17-1.

Nine of the ten Sox that went to the plate Saturday night registered at least one hit. Seven of those batters had more than one hit and six of them had three or more hits. SS Kyle Bellows, 2B/RF Geraldo Valentin and CF Jason Martin each had four hits in the game. 1B Andres Rodriguez, DH Kyle Nichols and C Jeff Farnham each added three hits and Nichols had a game-high four RBI.

The Sox scored in each of the first six innings and added four more runs in the ninth while the AirHogs only run came in the fifth inning. Starting pitcher Anthony Figliolia earned the win for tossing five innings and allowing one run on five hits.

 

Sioux Falls 5, Lincoln 0 — Box Score

The Canaries pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout of the Lincoln Saltdogs as Sioux Falls picked up a 5-0 win.

Starter Ben Moore went six strong innings and allowed the Saltdogs’ only two hits. He also struck out five batters and issued just one walk. He was replaced by reliever John Brebbia who tossed two hitless innings and then reliever Alan DeRatt closed out the game without allowing a hit in the ninth inning. Offensively, RF Steven Tinoco went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

CF Chris Valencia was the only other batter to have more than one hit in the game as he went 2-for-4. 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones had a pair of RBI and LF Chris Duffy added an RBI in the form of a solo home run.

 

Sioux City 10, St. Paul 1 — Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers pulled away from the St. Paul Saints with a six-run ninth inning to claim a 10-1 win.

The Saints scored first in the fourth inning when 1B Angelo Songco scored after RF Joe Bonfe hit into a fielder’s choice but the Explorers rattled off ten unanswered runs to finish off the game. Sioux City CF Tim Colwell helped out the Explorers’ cause with three hits and two RBI. SS Tommy Mendonca also had three hits and C Dillon Usiak finished the night with a team-high three RBI.

On the mound, starter Alex Caldera tossed five innings and allowed just one run on three hits but it was reliever Geoff Broussard that earned the win. Broussard worked 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit and struck out five batters.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Gary SouthShore 4 — Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks edged the Gary SouthShore RailCats behind a strong performance from the middle of the RedHawks batting order.

RedHawks 2B C.J. Retherford, hitting in the four spot, went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and behind him 1B Erik Castro also had three hits as well as two RBI. C Petey Paramore, batting sixth, added two RBI of his own. RF Brandon Tripp and DH Sawyer Carroll also had two hits in the game and Tripp had an RBI. The RedHawks took the lead with three runs in the sixth inning and added an important insurance run in the seventh.

For the RailCats, CF Drew Muren went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and SS Daniel Pulfer went 2-for-5 and also scored a run.

 

Wichita 4, Winnipeg 3 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth inning and held that advantage to claim a 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

It was Wichita 2B Jake Kahaulelio that broke the tie as he doubled home SS Ryan Khoury and LF Jake Luce. Luce was one of two Wingnuts to have a two-hit game alongside CF Brent Clevlen. Kahaulelio led the team in RBI. In the bottom of the eighth, SS Tyler Kuhn scored on a sacrifice fly from DH Josh Mazzola but that was the last run scored in the game.

Kuhn finished the night with a game-high three hits and 3B Jake Blackwood went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

 

Laredo 10, Kansas City 9 Final/11 Innings — Box Score

The Lemurs and the T-Bones were tied after 10 innings on Friday night when the league’s curfew rule suspended play. On Saturday, Laredo’s C Carlos Ramirez scored the walk-off run when CF Nick Van Stratten hit into a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the 11th.

The action heated up Friday night in the ninth inning as the T-Bones turned a two-run deficit into a two-run lead in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the frame, Van Stratten tripled home Ramirez and 3B/LF Harrison Kain to tie the score and force extras. Van Stratten went 5-for-6 in the game with three RBI and Ramirez went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, three walks and four RBI.

For the T-Bones, DH Nick Schwaner went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and LF Bryan Sabatella also had three hits as well as three RBI.

 

Laredo 13, Kansas City 5 — Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs carried over the momentum from winning the conclusion of Friday night’s game and took the regularly scheduled contest 13-5. The Lemurs took control of the contest with a seven-run eighth inning.

Kansas City struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when 2B Danny Richar tripled in a run and then scored on a single from DH Matt Padgett. The Lemurs clawed back and took the lead in the fifth inning and put the game out of reach in the eighth. Laredo scored seven runs on six hits including a bases-loaded double from RF Denis Phipps.

That double was Phipps only hit of the game but he tied for the team lead with 2B Travis Denker with three RBI. Lemurs DH J.P. Ramirez went 3-for-5 with two RBI. For the T-Bones, LF Bryan Sabatella went 3-for-5 with an RBI and DH Matt Padgett went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
