Gary SouthShore 6, Fargo-Moorhead 5 Final/10 Innings – Box Score
The Gary SouthShore RailCats were trailing 5-4 heading into the ninth inning but tied things up and forced a tenth where they claimed the lead and a 6-5 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
It was RailCats CF Drew Muren that quickly tied the score in the top of the ninth as he turned on the first pitch of the inning and belted a solo home run. In the 10th, 3B Jose Garcia singled to left field to score 2B Zac Mitchell for what would prove to be the game-winning run. In the bottom of the inning, DH Sawyer Carroll – who went 3-for-5 in the game – opened up the frame with a single but the next three batters went down in order.
Garcia went 3-for-5 at the plate and RF Josh Romanski went 2-for-5 with a run scored. For the RedHawks, 3B Ronnie Bourquin also had three hits and he added a team-high two RBI. 2B C.J. Retherford hit his 10th home run of the year.
Lincoln 4, Sioux Falls 0 – Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs shut out the Sioux Falls Canaries and allowed just six hits as they claimed a 4-0 victory on Friday night in Lincoln.
Starting pitcher Marquis Fleming earned the win as he went seven innings and gave up five hits while striking out nine batters. Fleming faced 28 batters in the game and tossed 107 pitches – 69 of them for strikes – and issued just two walks. Reliever Conor Spink struck out three straight batters in the eighth inning and reliever Trey Barham worked the ninth inning.
At the plate, eight Saltdogs had at least one hit and two of them had multi-hit games. CF Jon Gaston went 2-for-4 with three RBI and 1B Ian Gac went 3-for-3. For the Canaries, 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones and CF Chris Valencia each went 2-for-4.
Wichita 6, Winnipeg 5 – Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts fell behind in the first inning but rallied in the middle innings and took the lead with one final surge in the ninth to claim a 6-5 win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Goldeyes took an early 2-0 in the first inning but by the end of the fifth inning that lead had been trimmed to just one run as Winnipeg held a 5-4 lead. The Wingnuts tied up the score in the top of the eighth on a solo home run from CF Brent Clevlen. In the ninth, RF David Amberson led off the inning with a double and later scored the game-winning run on a single from SS Ryan Khoury. The Goldeyes loaded up the bases in the bottom of the ninth but reliever Matt Nevarez kept them from tying up the score.
Khoury had a game-high three hits for the Wingnuts and Amberson was one of three Wichita batters to have two hits in the game. For the Goldeyes, eight different batters had registered at least one hit. DH Ryan Pineda went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.
Sioux City 6, St. Paul 2 – Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers allowed the St. Paul Saints just three hits while racking up 13 hits themselves on their way to a 6-2 win.
The Explorers struck first in the top of the third as CF Tim Colwell tripled home RF Michael Lang. Colwell set the wheels in motion for two more runs to score in the fifth inning to move the Explorers ahead 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth the Saints opened up the inning by drawing a pair of walks and 2B Jared McDonald singled home a pair of runs but and CF Evan Bigley singled later in the inning for two of the team’s three hits in the game. Bigley had two hits in the game.
For the Explorers, Colwell had three hits and two RBI and three other batters including C Dillon Usiak who went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Amarillo 7, Grand Prairie 1 — Box Score
Amarillo took a 3-1 in the first inning and then kept the Grand Prairie AirHogs scoreless for the last eight innings to snag a 7-1 win.
Sox LF Joe Weik opened up the scoring with a triple that scored a pair of runs in the top of the first. Weik scored later in the inning on a single from SS Kyle Bellows. In the bottom of the inning, AirHog SS Jimmy Mojica scored on a sacrifice fly from 1B Jason Botts. That was the only run the AirHogs would score. Sox starting pitcher Coleman Stephens picked up the win as he went five innings and allowed one run on five hits. In the four innings, the Sox pitching staff allowed just one more hit and struck out four batters.
Weik, as well as 2B Geraldo Valentin and 1B Andres Rodriguez, had two hits in the game and for the AirHogs, Mojica also had two hits.
Kansas City 9, Laredo 9 — Suspended
The Kansas City T-Bones and the Laredo Lemurs were tied at nine runs apiece after ten innings. The game was suspended due to the league’s curfew rule. The game will be resumed on Saturday before the regularly scheduled contest.
