SOUTH ALL-STARS ANNOUNCED

St Paul All Star

DURHAM, N.C.– With seven selections, the defending American Association champion Laredo Lemurs headline the American Association South All-Star Team selections for the 2016 All-Star Game in St. Paul, Minnesota. The South All-Star Team will battle the North All-Star Team in the August 2 game at CHS Field, home of the St. Paul Saints. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. Central time, and the game will air on Fox Sports Midwest Plus.

The South All-Star team is composed of the four members of the American Association’s South division — the Joplin Blasters, Laredo Lemurs, Texas AirHogs and Wichita Wingnuts. The South All-Star team will also include representatives from the six-team Can-Am League. The Can-Am League is composed of the New Jersey Jackals, Ottawa Champions, Quebec Capitales, Rockland Boulders, Sussex County Miners and Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Miles Wolff serves as the Commissioner of both the American Association and Can-Am League.

All-Stars representing American Association teams were selected by Pete Incaviglia, manager of the Laredo Lemurs and manager of the South All-Stars in the game. Can-Am League All-Stars were chosen by Jamie Keefe, manager of the Rockland Boulders. Keefe will serve as a coach for the South All-Stars in the August 2 game.

The 2016 American Association South All-Stars are below:

Starters

First Baseman: Art Charles, New Jersey Jackals

-Can-Am League leader in home runs (15) and RBI (51)

-Second in the Can-Am League in batting average (.345)

-Also has 12 doubles and five triples on the season

-Two-time Can-Am League Pointstreak Player of the Week for the weeks ending June 12 and June 19

-First year with the Jackals

Second Baseman: Brian Bistagne, Texas AirHogs

-Batting .301 with four doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 22 RBI

-First year with the AirHogs

Shortstop: Junior Arrojo, Rockland Boulders

-Can-Am League leader in batting average (.359)

-Sixth in the Can-Am League in RBI (33)

-Also has nine doubles, two triples and five home runs on the year

-Can-Am League Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending May 22

-Third year with the Boulders

Third Baseman: Danny Mateo, Trois-Rivieres Aigles

-Seventh in the Can-Am League in batting average (.316)

-Tied for seventh in the Can-Am League with 32 RBI

-Also has five doubles, a triple and four home runs on the season

-Third year with the Aigles

Catcher: Marcus Nidiffer, Rockland Boulders

-Second in the Can-Am League in home runs (11)

-Third in the Can-Am League in RBI (37)

-Batting .246, also has five doubles and two triples

-Third season with the Boulders

Outfielder: Harrison Kain, Wichita Wingnuts

-Second in the American Association with a .358 batting average

-Has eight doubles, four triples and two home runs and 28 RBI on the season

-Second year with the Winguts

Outfielder: Brent Clevlen, Wichita Wingnuts

-Third in the American Association with 13 home runs

-Tied for third in the American Association with 44 RBI

-Batting .316 with 17 doubles to go with the 13 home runs and 44 RBI

-2014 American Association Player of the Year, fourth year with the Wingnuts

Outfielder: Burt Reynolds, Texas AirHogs

-Leads the American Association in home runs with 18

-Batting .289 with eight doubles, a triple and 36 RBI to go with the 18 home runs

-American Association Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 12

-First year with the AirHogs

Designated Hitter: Denis Phipps, Laredo Lemurs

-Batting .267 with nine doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 30 RBI
