SOHN NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes INF Andrew Sohn (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 6.

Sohn wins the award for the second time in 2017, having previously been named the Player of the Week for the week ending July 16. This week, Sohn hit .441 (15-for-34) with two doubles, two home runs, and four RBI.

He began his week on Monday in the series opener between the Goldeyes and Sioux City Explorers. In a 7-5 Winnipeg win, Sohn was 2-for-6 with a double and a run scored. The following day, Sohn was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored in a 9-5 win in the opening game of a doubleheader. The nightcap featured Sohn’s first homer of the week, which propelled Winnipeg to a 5-4 triumph. He was 2-for-3 in the series finale, scoring a Goldeyes run in a sweep-completing 4-0 win.

Thursday saw the Goldeyes head to Gary, Ind. to face the Gary SouthShore RailCats in a four-game series. Sohn picked up two more hits and scored two runs in a 9-4 win in the series opener, then was 2-for-3 with a run scored in a 6-2 defeat in Friday’s game, Winnipeg’s only loss of the week. On Saturday, Sohn collected another hit as the Goldeyes returned to their winning ways with a 6-5 triumph. In Sunday’s series finale, Sohn had his best game of the week. He was 4-for-5, falling a triple shy of the cycle, driving in two runs and scoring three more. Winnipeg won 9-7.

Sohn is now hitting .342 on the season, picking up 12 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 37 RBI. He is currently riding a 16-game hit streak, and has hits in 19 of his last 20 games.

The former Western Michigan University Bronco is in his first season with Winnipeg after three years in the St. Louis Cardinals system. St. Louis selected Sohn in the sixth round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft, and he played as high as the Class AA Springfield (Mo.) Cardinals, where he appeared in 14 games between the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
