Sioux City

Sioux City 8, St. Paul 5 – Box

The Sioux City Explorers tallied six runs in the fifth inning to take full control of the game and defeat the St. Paul Saints by an 8-5 score. Sioux City had four hitters with multi-hit games including C Ralph Henriquez who went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Explorers CF Tim Colwell had two hits and two runs scored while RF Michael Lang had two walks and two RBI in a 1-for-3 night. Sioux City pitcher Rob Wort picked up his third win of the season as he threw three innings of relief allowing an earned run on three hits. First baseman Angelo Songco went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the loss for St. Paul.

Gary SouthShore 7, Kansas City 2 – Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored four runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeat the Kansas City T-Bones by a 7-2 final. Gary SouthShore CF Anthony Cheky went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while DH Frank Martinez and SS Jarred Mederos each had a hit and three RBI with Martinez tallying a run. RailCats starting pitcher Charle Rosario tossed a complete game in earning his sixth win of the season. Rosario allowed two earned runs on four hits with a pair of walks and six strikeouts. For Kansas City in the losing effort, LF Tyson Gillies and DH Anthony Gallas each hit solo home runs.

Wichita 5, Lincoln 2 – Box

Wichita scored four runs in the second inning to jump out to a 4-0 lead and would roll on to a 5-2 victory over Lincoln in a battle of division leaders. Wingnuts SS Leo Vargas went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with LF Brent Dean collecting a double, scoring a run and driving in two. Wichita DH Brent Clevlen added two hits while CF T.J. Mittelstaedt chipped in with his 11th home run on the season. Wingnuts starting pitcher Alex Boshers tossed six solid innings in notching his seventh win of the season. Boshers gave up two earned runs on 10 hits and struck out four batters.

Laredo 4, Sioux Falls 2 – Box

Right fielder Denis Phipps’ two-run home run in the sixth inning was the difference in the ballgame as the Laredo Lemurs downed the Sioux Falls Canaries, 4-2. It was Phipps’ only hit of the night in two official at-bats with SS Alvaro Rondon collecting three hits and driving in a run. Laredo 1B Jesus Posso also added a third inning solo home run which gave the team an early 1-0 lead. Lemurs starter Jose Nivar gave up two unearned runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings pitched to get the victory. Nivar is now 3-1 on the season.

Texas 6, Joplin 4 – Box

After falling behind 3-0 through one inning of play, the Texas AirHogs stormed back with four runs in the second and would cruise to a 6-4 win over the Joplin Blasters. Texas CF Michael Hur had a solid night offensively going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI. AirHogs SS Juan Sanchez had two hits in four at-bats while 1B Devon Rodriguez and C Michael Miller each hit home runs, their third and sixth respectively. Texas starting pitcher Cody Hebner threw 5 2/3 innings and notched his third win of the season. Hebner allowed four earned runs on nine hits.

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Winnipeg 1 (Suspended/Rain – Top 4)

The contest between Fargo-Moorhead and Winnipeg was suspended due to rain in the top of the fourth inning with the RedHawks leading 5-1. The contest will resume at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 27 with the regularly scheduled game to follow.
