St. Paul 1, Sioux City 0 — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints’ pitching staff combined to one-hit the Sioux City Explorers, paving the way for a 1-0 win.
Starter John Straka pitched the first three innings of the game which was riddled with rain delays and reliever Caleb Thielbar worked the next three. Straka gave up the Explorer’s only hit – a second-inning single from DH LeVon Washington. Reliever Cory Williams worked the next two innings to earn the win and Ryan Rodebaugh worked the ninth to earn the save and preserve the one-hitter.
The game’s only run came in the bottom of the seventh inning when 2B Sam Maus doubled to score C Aaron Gretz. The Saints had just five hits in the game and Gretz had two of them.
Lincoln 5, Wichita 0 — Box Score
Four Lincoln Saltdog pitchers combined to two-hit the Wichita Wingnuts as Lincoln earned a 5-0 shutout win.
Starting pitcher Jeff McKenzie went 5.1 innings and gave up just one hit before being relieved by Clayton Cook, who worked the next 1.2 innings. Cook struck out three batters of the five he faced. Both Relievers Brad Orosey and Stephen Shackleford each worked one inning the rest of the way and preserved the shutout.
Offensively, DH Jon Smith was one of four Saltdogs to have a two-hit game and he added the RBI. 3B Luis Alen also had two hits and scored one.
Gary Southshore 7, Kansas City 3 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones found the scoreboard first but couldn’t overcome a five-run sixth inning from Gary SouthShore as the RailCats won 7-3.
The RailCats broke a 1-1 tie by sending nine batters to the plate in the top of the sixth inning and scoring five of them. DH Alex Crosby and 2B John Holland each had RBI singles in the frame – Holland’s scored a pair of runs – while C Jose Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk and then scored when RF Cameron Newell hit into a fielder’s choice.
The T-Bones responded with a pair of RBI singles from 2B Starlin Rodriguez and LF Tyson Gillies in the bottom of the inning but wouldn’t draw any closer the rest of the way.
Laredo 12, Sioux Falls 8 — Box Score
The Laredo Lemurs outpaced the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-8 in a game that saw an offensive explosion in the later innings.
All but two of the game’s 20 runs were scored after the sixth inning, including three from the Canaries in the bottom of the ninth to draw within four runs. The Lemurs racked up 16 hits in the game and saw hits from nine different batters. Both LF Ty Morrison and DH Leandro Castro each had a game-high three hits while 2B/SS J.D. Pulfer hit a grand slam and a solo home run and RF Denis Phipps went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a three-run shot in the eighth.
For the Canaries, DH Jake Taylor also homered twice in the game and finished the night with four RBI and three runs scored.
Joplin 8, Texas 0 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters shut out the Texas AirHogs and 2B Mitch Glasser’s big night at the plate helped spur the offense as Joplin walked away with an 8-0 win.
Starting pitcher Chris Treibt earned the win for working five innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five. Reliever Carlos Fuentes tossed the rest of the game and allowed just one hit to earn the save. Fuentes struck out three batters and did not issue a walk.
Offensively, Glasser had two hits – a double and a home run – to finish the night with four RBI. C Ermindo Escobar was one of seven different Blasters to score in the game and he did so twice while going 2-for-3 at the plate. For the AirHogs, four different batters each had one hit.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, Winnipeg 4 – Completion of suspended game — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks built an early lead Tuesday before their game with the Winnipeg Goldeyes was suspended for weather and came back Wednesday and closed the deal with a 6-4 win.
The Goldeyes came out strong when the game resumed on Wednesday and score three runs in the top of the fourth thanks to RBI doubles from 3B Ridge Hoopii-Haslam and C Carlton Tanabe. But the RedHawks never surrendered the lead. 3B Josh Mazzola, who doubled twice in the game, doubled home a pair of runs in the third inning and scored on a single from DH K.D. Kang. Kang scored later in the frame to give the RedHawks a pivotal four-run inning.
For the game, LF Brian Humphries had a team-high three hits for the RedHawks meanwhile seven different Goldeyes each had one hit apiece.
Winnipeg 1, Fargo-Moorhead 0 – 7 Innings/Regularly scheduled game — Box Score
After dropping the conclusion of Tuesday’s game, the Winnipeg Goldeyes bounced back to claim the night cap with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 1-0.
The game’s only run came in the top of the fourth inning when LF Adam Heisler reached with a lead-off single and then scored when CF Reggie Abercrombie doubled. The Goldeyes’ defense and pitching staff made that single run stand up as they allowed the RedHawks just three hits in the game.
Starting pitcher Ethan Carnes earned the win for going 5.2 and giving up three hits while recording three strikeouts. Reliever Eric Eadington picked up a four-out save and also struck out three batters.
