Sioux City 9, Grand Prairie 8

After giving up five runs in the top of the first inning , the Sioux City Explorers came back to beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 9-8. The AirHogs opened the game by scoring five runs on six hits including a single from DH Juan Richardson that scored two runs. Richardson and LF/RF Brian Myrow each had a team-high two RBI for the AirHogs.

But the Explorers started chipping away in the bottom of the inning with three runs – two on a single from RF Peter Barrows. Barrows was one of six Explorers to have a multi-hit game as he was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sioux City claimed the lead in the third inning when SS Leugim Barroso (pictured)  came around to score on a single by 2B Brian Bistagne. Both Barroso and Bistange had three hits in the game and Barroso had a team-high three RBI. Grand Prairie rallied in the ninth to draw within one run but couldn’t get any closer.

 

Wichita 18, St. Paul 6

The Wichita Wingnuts destroyed the St. Paul Saints 18-6 as every Wingnut had at least one hit and six of them registered mulit-RBI games. RF David Amberson was an impressive 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. 3B Abel Nieves also had a four hit game. 1B Cody Ziegler had a team-high four RBI as he was 2-for-4 and recorded his 11thdouble of the season.

Both SS Ryan Khoury and 2B Jake Kahaulelio added two RBI. The game was tight through the first three and a half innings, in fact in the middle of the fourth the Saints held a 6-5 lead. But the Wingnuts closed out the game with 13 unanswered runs. And though starting pitcher Junior Guerra gave up 10 tens and all six runs, he earned the win.

 

Lincoln 7, Kansas City 6

After taking a three run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs held off a ninth inning rally by the Kansas City T-Bones to win 7-6. A homerun by T-Bone 1B Matt Padgett tied the score in the top of the eighth but the Saltdogs responded in the bottom of the frame. LF Matt Forgatch, who was 2-for-5 with two RBI, singled home a run, stole second and then scored along with 1B David Espinosa on a double by DH Tyler Goodro.

Those three runs put Lincoln on top 7-6. Reliever R.J. Rodriguez came in to pitch for Lincoln in the ninth and gave up a solo homerun to 3B Devin Goodwin to lead off the inning. With two outs and runners on the corners, 2B Jairo Perez singled in SS Felix Molina but Rodriguez retired Padgett in the next at bat to seal the game and earn the save.

 

Amarillo 9, Sioux Falls 3

The Amarillo Sox handled the Sioux Falls Canaries 9-3 behind a big push from the bottom of the Sox batting order. 2B Trey Ford, who hit eighth in the order, was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. He had his fourth homerun of the season in the fifth inning. Behind him, SS K.C. Serna was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Three other Sox had multi-hit games, including 1B Joe Weik – who was 2-for-4 with two RBI. The Canaries cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the eighth inning but a four-run rally by the Sox put the game well out of reach. Sox Starter Jason Mitchell went six innings and gave up two runs on six hits as he picked up his third win of the year.

 

El Paso 11, Laredo 3

The El Paso Diablos handled the Laredo Lemurs 11-3 Sunday night as DH Murray Watts knocked in an impressive five RBI. Three of those RBI came with a home run in the seventh inning that put the Diablos out in front 10-3.  Watts, who also scored three runs, was one of four Diablos to have a two-hit game. C Thomas McAlpine was 2-for-3 with two RBI and 3B Omar Luna also had two hits and an RBI.  For the Lemurs, SS Jimmy Mojica paced the offense. He was 3-for-4 with an RBI and the only Lemur to have more than one hit. The Diablos led the whole way, scoring six runs in the second and third innings and then five more in the seventh and eighth.
