Gary SouthShore 14, Fargo-Moorhead 11

Gary SouthShore mounted a massive, eight-run seventh inning to stun the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 14-11. The RailCats were down by six going into the seventh, but pulled within one run before Cristian Guerrero (pictured) came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Guererro roped a double that cleared the bases and gave the RailCats their first lead of the day at 11-9.

Fargo-Moorhead tied the game back up in the bottom half of the inning on RBI singles by Nic Jackson and Tim Alberts and the teams remained tied going into the ninth. But, once again, the RailCats delivered at the plate. Adam Klein hit a one out tripe and Mike Massaro singled him home to take the lead back for Gary SouthShore. Massaro later scored on a bases-loaded walk and Brian Kolb hit a sacrifice fly that scored Guerrero for an extra insurance run. This time, the RedHawks could not answer the RailCats’ rally, as Gary SouthShore rode its late-inning surges to victory.

Winnipeg 4, Quebec 3

A ninth-inning comeback, led by Fehlandt Lentini, gave Winnipeg a walk-off win against Quebec, 4-3. Lentini drove home the tying run, employed some heads up baserunning to get into scoring position and ultimately scored the winning run, as the Goldeyes overcame a 3-2 deficit in their last at-bats.

The Winnipeg rally began with a one-out double off the bat of Leonard Davis. Lentini promptly singled Davis home to knot the score at 3-3. After an error moved Lentini to second, the Capitales walked Luis Alen, putting runners on first and second. With Nick Liles at the plate, Lentini stole third, giving the Goldeyes a chance to win the game with the winning run 90 feet from home. Liles hit a ground ball to third and Lentini quickly broke for home. Quebec 3B Jonathan Malo fielded the grounder and gunned it home, but Lentini got his foot in ahead of Josue Peley’s tag and the Goldeyes walked off with the win.
