SALTDOGS WIN IN WALK-OFF OVER SAINTS

Lincoln 3, St. Paul 2 – Box

Lincoln PH Jon Smith belted a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Saltdogs a 3-2 walk-off victory over St. Paul. The Saints had just taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the frame before the blast from Smith won it for Lincoln. Saltdogs 3B Juan Martinez went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI while 1B Austin Gallagher added two hits in four at-bats and plated a run. Saltdogs closer Evan Reed picked up the win as he allowed an earned run on two hits in an inning of work. With the wins by Lincoln and Sioux City and the loss by Gary SouthShore, the Saltdogs are now a ½ game ahead of the RailCats and a game up on the Explorers in the tight Central Division race.

Joplin 3, Laredo 0 – Box

The Joplin Blasters won its third straight against Laredo as they defeated the Lemurs by the score of 3-0. Joplin received a terrific performance from its pitching staff tonight as starter Wander Perez and two relievers combined on a four-hit shutout. Perez notched his third win of the season as he went the first 6 1/3 innings giving up the four hits while striking out eight batters. The bullpen duo of Victor Ramirez and Roby Romero finished off the shutout with Romero collecting his second save in as many nights. Offensively for the Blasters, DH Mitch Glasser went 3-for-3 with a run scored while 2B Edwin Gomez chipped in with a double and three RBI.
