JUNE 8 EVENING RECAP

Lincoln 7, Sioux Falls 0 – Box

Lincoln Saltdogs starting pitcher Shairon Martis was sensational tonight as he tossed a five-hit complete game shutout and defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries, 7-0. Martis threw 117 pitches and gave up no walks while striking out five. The righty notched his third win and improved to 3-2 on the season.  Lincoln scored three runs in the second inning and two more in the third to roll out to a 5-0 lead and would cruise from there to victory behind the strong pitching from Martis. Saltdogs SS Pat McKenna went 1-for-1 on the night with two walks, two runs scored and a RBI while LF Jon Smith went 1-for-3 and plated two runs. Sioux Falls pitching walked a total of 12 batters in the contest.

St. Paul 10, Texas 6 – Box

Trailing 3-0 through five innings, the St. Paul Saints exploded for 10 runs over the last four innings and beat the Texas AirHogs by a 10-6 final. St. Paul collected 15 hits in the contest with five batters having multi-hit games. Saints DH Tony Thomas went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI. St. Paul 3B Nate Hanson had a 2-for-5 night with three runs scored and a RBI while 1B Angelo Songco had three hits in four at-bats along with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Saints reliever Caleb Thielbar notched the win as he threw 1 1/3 innings giving up a hit and fanning two hitters. Thielbar is now 1-1 on the season.

Joplin 8, Laredo 1 –  Box

The Joplin Blasters scored two runs in the seventh inning and four more in the eighth to break open a tight game and beat the Laredo Lemurs by an 8-1 score. Joplin pounded out 18 hits with everyone in their lineup collecting at least one. Blasters CF Ronnie Richardson had a 2-for-5 night with a triple, two runs scored and a RBI. Joplin SS Will Soto went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI and C Charlie Valerio collected two hits and scored two runs. Blasters pitcher Jake Negrete tossed a 1/3 of an inning of relief to pick up the win. For Laredo in defeat, RF Reggie Wilson drew two walks and scored the team’s only run of the contest.
