Durham, N.C. — The Tampa Bay Rays organization has purchased the contract of Laredo Lemurs RHP Kyle Winkler, the American Association announced on Thursday.
Winkler’s stay in the American Association was brief but dominant, as the Sugar Land, Texas, native made eight outings for Laredo, all out of the bullpen. In those games, the 25-year-old picked up four victories, tying him for the league lead, and allowed just one run on five hits in 10 2/3 innings of work, striking out seven.
Previously, Winkler spent four seasons in the Tampa Bay, Arizona and Los Angeles Angels organizations, reaching Triple-A with the Rays during the 2015 season. He was originally a 10th-round choice of the Diamondbacks in the 2012 draft out of Texas Christian University.
