St. Paul 6, Fargo-Moorhead 5- Box Score
The St. Paul Saints edged the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-5 on Tuesday to give their manager, George Tsamis, his 1000th career win.
Maikol Gonzalez opened the scoring in the top of the first with a one-run single to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Josh Allen tied the game in the bottom of the frame with his first of two home runs on the day. Then, in the top of the second, Brennan Metzger picked up an RBI double and scored in the next at bat on another run producing single by Gonzalez. Allen would also drive in another run in the second inning, scoring Jayce Boyd on a bases loaded hit by pitch to make the game 3-2.
The RedHawks scored two more on RBIs by Metzger and Gonzalez to 5-2 in the top of the fourth. The Saints began mounting their comeback in the bottom of the fifth when Dante Bichette Jr. picked up an RBI single. Allen cut the lead to one in the seventh with his second solo home run of the game. Justin O’Conner tied the game in the eighth, hitting a sacrifice fly to drive in Bichette Jr., who led off the inning with a double. The Saints took the lead in the next at bat on a RBI single by JJ Gould.
Mike Devine was awarded the win for pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Tom Wilhelmsen earned the save.
Winnipeg 4, Gary SouthShore 1- Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to push past the Gary SouthShore Railcats on Tuesday.
Andrew Sohn hit his first home run of the season in the bottom of the third off of Railcats’ starter Jeff McKenzie to give the Goldeyes a 1-0 lead. McKenzie would allow just the one run during his 6.1 innings of work and he would get off the hook in the top of the fifth when Alex Crosby scored on an error to tie the game 1-1.
Winnipeg starter Mitchell Lambson allowed just the one unearned run on five hits while striking out five over five innings. The Goldeyes’ bullpen came through after Lambson left, with four pitchers pitching scoreless innings.
Winnipeg reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Jordan Ebert hit a one out pinch hit sacrifice fly to score Eric Aguilera from third. In the next at bat, Kevin Garcia hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot that gave the Goldeyes some insurance and brought the game to its final score of 4-1.
Cameron McVey was awarded the win after pitching a scoreless eighth. Victor Capellan was awarded his league leading 12th save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth.
Chicago 6, Sioux Falls 5- Box Score
Shawn Dunston Jr. led the Chicago Dogs to a 6-5 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Tuesday.
In the second at bat in the bottom of the first, Canaries’ SS Blake Schmidt drove in Jordan Smith, who reached on a walk, with an RBI double. Two batters later, Schmidt scored on a RBI double by Jabari Henry to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 lead. In the next frame, however, Dunston Jr. drove in three runners with a double of his own to give the Dogs the lead. Jonothan Moroney extended the lead in the next inning with a solo home run to make it 4-2. Sioux Falls cut the deficit to one in the next frame, scoring on a Chris Grayson single. Dunston Jr. followed by leading off the next inning with a single, stealing second, and scoring on a single by Dalton Blaser.
Sioux Falls scored in the sixth to again make it a one run game, they would do so one more time in the bottom of the eighth, but only after Matt Dean hit his second home run of the season, a solo home run that gave Chicago its needed sixth run.
Last week’s Pitcher of The Week, Connor Root, was awarded the win giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out 4 in 5.2 innings of work. Kaohi Downing was award the save for pitching a scoreless ninth.
Kansas City 6, Sioux City 0- Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones blanked the Sioux City Explorers on Tuesday, winning 6-0.
Four T-Bones’ pitchers; James Buckelew (6 innings), Joe Filomeno (1), Hunter Adkins (1), and Sam Street (1), combined to earn the shutout. Buckelew allowed just two hits, walking one and striking out three in the start.
All but one Kansas City run came via the long ball on Tuesday.
Zach Walters and Cal Towey led off the bottom of the second with back-to-back home runs to give the T-Bones a 2-0 lead. In the next inning, Kansas City scored on an error. Then in the bottom of the fourth, Tucker Pennell hit a two-run bomb to make it 5-0. Adrian Nieto capped the scoring with a solo home run of his own in the bottom of the eighth.
Texas 5, Lincoln 2- Box Score
The Texas AirHogs scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-2 on Tuesday.
Lincoln led 2-0 for the majority of the game after scoring one in the top of the second on a Brandon Jacobs single and one in the third on a Brant Whiting home run.
The AirHogs cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Dillon Thomas. The fateful bottom of the eighth began with a walk, an error, and an intentional walk to load the bases. Lincoln recorded one out before Texas tied the game on a two-run double by Luan Chenchen. Two Batters later, Texas scored two more on another Saltdogs’ error.
Gan Quan was solid in the start for the AirHogs, allowing just two earned while scattering five hits, walking two, and striking out three over seven innings. Ultimately, he would not factor in the decision. The win was awarded to reliever Ran Song, who got Texas out of a jam in the top of the eighth inning. Taylor Wright earned his third save by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Wichita 8, Cleburne 6- Box Score
The Wichita Wingnuts outscored the Cleburne Railroaders 8-6 in a barn burner on Tuesday night.
The Railroaders took a four run lead in the bottom of the first. Trevor Sealey hit a solo home run in the second at bat of the inning, two batters later Chevy Clarke hit a two-run home run, and Alex Polston drove in the fourth run with a single. Wichita cut the lead to two in the next frame, scoring two on a double by Ryne Willard. Cleburne scored one in the bottom of the second to make it a three-run game, but the Wingnuts tied it in the third, scoring two on a home run by Fernando Perez and one on another double by Willard. However, Blake Grant-Parks hit a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to give the Railroader a 6-5 lead, their final lead of the game.
In the top of the fourth, Abel Nieves tied the game with an RBI single and later scored on a groundout to give Wichita a 7-6 lead. The Wingnuts added one in the sixth to bring the game to its final score.
Seth Harvey was awarded the win after stepping in for starter Colin Osburn who lasted just 1.2 innings. In Harvey’s 3.1 innings of relief he yielded just one earned on three hits, striking out three in the process. Daniel Tillman was awarded the save.
