St. Paul 6, Winnipeg 5 (12 Innings) – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints needed 12 innings to slide past the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-5 in a game that saw a lot of action as the night went on.
The Saints were leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but CF Reggie Abercrombie’s two-RBI fielder’s choice tied things up and DH Grant Heyman’s two-run home run in the next at-bat gave Winnipeg the lead. In the top of the ninth, 3B Dante Bichette Jr. scored as DH Jeff Malm bounced out and C Justin O’Conner (2-for-4) did the same on a SS J.J. Gould ground out.
After a scoreless 10th, O’Conner homered to push the Saints back in front but 1B Jamey Smart matched that run with an RBI single to left in the bottom of the frame, extending the game to the 12th. In the 12th, RF Max Murphy plated what became the game-winning run with a double that scored LF Richard Prigatano.
Sioux City 20, Wichita 10 – Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers scored 18 runs in the final three innings – six runs in each frame – as they outlasted the Wichita Wingnuts 20-10.
As a team, the Explorers racked up 24 hits and every player that went to the plate had at least one base knock. LF Luis Durango went 5-for-7 with three RBIs and two runs scored. 3B Jose Sermo was one of three Explorers to have three hits in the game and he finished with a game-high seven RBIs. 1B Dexture McCall added four hits and two runs scored.
The Wingnuts had a big game at the plate as well as they tallied 14 hits, three each from SS Logan Watkins and 3B Fernando Perez. Perez and LF Tony Thomas homered for Wichita on the night.
The game was delayed at the start due to rain.
Kansas City 7, Cleburne 4 – Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones topped the Cleburne Railroaders 7-4 despite being out hit 10-7 on the night.
Of the T-Bones’ seven hits, CF Todd Cunningham had four of them and he added an RBI and a pair of runs scored. 2B Dylan Tice, RF Nick Torres and DH Tucker Pennell each added one hit and Torres and Pennell also added RBIs. 1B Zach Walters chipped in a pair of RBIs.
For the Railroaders CF K.C. Huth went 2-for-5, C Blake Grant-Parks went 2-for-4 and 3B Angel Rosa went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
T-Bones’ starting pitcher Tommy Collier earned the win for working seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out 10 batters.
Chicago 4, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box Score
The Chicago Dogs erased an early one-run deficit and knocked off the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 4-1 on Saturday night.
LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-4) was responsible for the RedHawks only run of the night when he hit a solo home run (his fifth of 2018) in the top of the third inning. But the Dogs moved in front in the bottom of the fifth when SS Michael Baca singled to center, allowing CF Tony Rosselli and LF Dalton Blaser (2-for-3) to score. Blaser added another run in the sixth with an RBI single.
3B Matt Dean provided the final run of the night with a lead-off home run in the seventh, his fourth home run of the year.
Sioux Falls 8, Texas 1 – Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries surged late offensively to earn an 8-1 win against the Texas AirHogs.
Texas scored the first run of the game with a leadoff home run from3B Luo Jinjun (2-for-4) in the bottom of the third inning. The Canaries’ bats came to life in the sixth when 3B Jordan Dean (3-for-4) scored after LF Jordan Smith (3-for-4) singled and took second on an error. Smith and CF Dan Motl both scored later in the inning when Jabari Henry singled.
DH David Bergin doubled in Smith and Dean to add to the lead in the seventh and SS Blake Schmit scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat. Motl and Smith capped off the night with RBI singles in the eighth to reach the final margin.
Gary SouthShore at Lincoln – Postponed (Rain)
The game between the Gary SouthShore RailCats and the Lincoln Saltdogs was postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow, Sunday July 1, beginning at 1:05 p.m. Central Time.
