St. Paul 2, Gary SouthShore 1 (12 Innings) — Box Score
Thanks to an RBI single from RF Breland Almadova, the St. Paul Saints outlasted the Gary SouthShore RailCats 2-1 in 12 innings.
The game was tied at 1-1 after nine innings thanks to a third-inning RBI single from LF Reggie Wilson and an unearned run by 1B Mitch Delfino in the top of the fifth. In the 12th, CF Kes Carter hit a lead-off single, moved to second when Delfino bounced out, took third as C Tanner Lubach singled and then scored the game when running as Almadova singled to second. In the bottom half of the inning, reliever Brandon Peterson (3-2) sat the RailCats down in order to pick up the win.
For the game, Lubach went 3-for-5 to lead the team and for the RailCats, RF Colin Willis had a team-high two hits.
Wichita 3, Lincoln 2 — Box Score
Behind a strong showing from the Wichita pitching staff, the Wingnuts picked up a 3-2 win against the Lincoln Saltdogs.
Lincoln was held to five hits in the game and scored its only two runs in the top of the third inning when 2B Cesar Valera tripled home CF Matty Johnson and 3B Joe Robbins. Starting pitcher Tyler Kane (8-1) earned the win for working seven innings and allowing the two runs on five hits without issuing a walk. Reliever James Campbell worked a perfect eighth and Austin Boyle finished things off in the ninth to earn the save.
At the plate for the Wingnuts, CF Tyler Sullivan went 3-for-5 and scored twice, DH Brent Clevlen went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and SS Leo Vargas added the team’s other RBI.
Cleburne 3, Sioux City 2 — Box Score
The Cleburne Railroaders made the most of their five hits in the game to edge the Sioux City Explorers 3-2.
Sioux City struck first in the top of the first inning when Joe Bennie doubled and then scored on an error but the Railroaders took the lead in the bottom of the inning as DH Geraldo Valentin doubled home both 2B Maikol Gonzalez and 3B Mitch Glasser. LF Jayce Ray tied the score in the top of the sixth off a sac fly from DH LeVon Washington but in the seventh, Glasser provided the eventual game-winning run with a double that plated SS Alex Polston.
For the game, Glasser had two of Cleburne’s five hits. For the Explorers, Washington went 3-for-3 to lead the team.
Kansas City 6, Fargo-Moorhead 4 — Box Score
With the help of a big night at the plate from 2B Marcus Lemon, the Kansas City T-Bones held off the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-4.
Lemon went 4-for-5 on the day with a two-run home run and a double. His home run came in the top of the seventh inning and it broke a 3-3 tie. SS Jerome Pena was the only other T-Bone to have more than one hit as he went 2-for-4 with two doubles, scored three times and pushed across one RBI. Both RF Chantz Mack, who homered, and 1B Kevin Keyes added one RBI.
For the RedHawks, LF Keury De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a run scored and C Charlie Valerio hit a solo home run.
Texas 7, Salina 3 — Box Score
Riding the strength of a strong start, the Texas AirHogs took care of the Salina Stockade 7-3.
The AirHogs scored four runs in the first three innings and never trailed on the night. The Stockade cut into the lead in the top of the fourth inning when 2B Aaron Olivas singled home RF Jimmy Heck and SS Logan Trowbridge scored on a wild pitch but the AirHogs responded in the fifth with a two-run home run from RF Charley Thurber to push the lead back to three runs.
For the day, Thurber and DH Denis Phipps each had two RBI for Texas and SS Ryne Willard when 2-for-4. For the Stockade, Trowbridge went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Winnipeg 9, Sioux Falls 7 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes cut short a ninth-inning rally from the Sioux Falls Canaries to seal a 9-7 win.
Winnipeg jumped out to a 9-0 lead thanks to a three-run first – that included a two-run home run from 1B Shawn Pleffner – and a five-run fourth. In the fourth, Plfeffner scored on a fielder’s choice, SS Andrew Sohn, who was 3-for-5, doubled home a pair of runs and later scored himself and 2B Jordan Ebert scored on a wild pitch. The Canaries got on the board in the bottom of the frame with four runs, two coming on a single from 2B Tyler Wolfe.
In the bottom of the ninth, LF Trey Vavra homered to pull the Canaries within three an Jabari Henry singled in RF Burt Reynolds, who was 5-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, but Wolfe struck out in the next at-bat to end the game.
