ALEXANDER TOSSES ONE-HITTER FOR REDHAWKS

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Kansas City 0 — Box Score

Starting pitcher Tyler Alexander (5-5) pitched a complete-game one-hitter to lead the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to a 5-0 win against the Kansas City T-Bones.

Alexander needed just 115 pitches, 79 for strikes) to finish off the T-Bones and he faced just 29 batters as he gave up one hit and two walks. He retired 13 batters via strikeout. The T-Bones’ lone hit was a double by 3B Jordan Edgerton in the top of the second inning. No T-Bone touched third base in the game. The RedHawks backed him up with five runs, all in the first two innings.

3B Josh Mazzola singled home a run in the first and RF K.D. Kang was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded later in the inning. In the second, CF Devan Ahart tripled home a run and then scored when Mazzola hit his 11th home run of the season three batters later.

 

Sioux Falls 3, Winnipeg 2 — Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries edged the Winnipeg Goldeyes 3-2 in a tight pitcher’s duel.

Both teams scored in the first inning as CF Reggie Abercrombie singled in LF Josh Romanski and DH Chris Jacobs doubled to push SS Blake Schmit across home plate. The Canaries took the lead in the sixth when 3B Patrick Fiala singled to score Jacobs and then scored on an error later in the inning. The Goldeyes pulled one back in the top of the eighth as 1B Shawn Pleffner singled to score RF David Rohm.

In the ninth, reliever Jose Ortega closed the door to earn his 15th save of the year. Starting pitcher Grady Wood (6-2) earned the win for working seven innings and allowing one run on six hits while striking out two.

 

Lincoln 6, Wichita 5 — Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs held the Wichita Wingnuts scoreless in the final six innings to pull out a 6-5 win.

Wichita held the early lead 5-2 after a four-run third inning that included an RBI single from CF Tyler Sullivan, a two-RBI triple from 3B T.J. Mittelstaedt and a sac fly off the bat of 1B Matt Chavez. But that would be the final runs of the game for Wichita. The Saltdogs tied things up in the fifth with three RBI singles to center field – one each from 2B Cesar Valera, 1B Nathaniel Maggio and RF Randolph Oduber.

The Saltdogs scored the eventual game-winning run in the seventh as CF Matty Johnson hit his fourth home run of the season. Johnson, Oduber and LF Brandon Jacobs each had two hits for the Saltdogs in the game.

 

St. Paul 6, Gary SouthShore 4 — Box Score

The St. Paul Saints put together three two-run innings to edge the Gary SouthShore RailCats 6-4.

The first of those innings came in the third as 3B Nate Hanson doubled in a run and then scored when LF Anthony Gallas reached on an error. In the fifth, Gallas did the same thing, doubling home DH Tim Colwell and scoring on an error in the next at bat. Two innings later, 2B Tony Thomas, who went 3-for-5, hit a two-run home run, scoring Gallas, to take a 6-2 lead. The RailCats pushed across two runs of their own in the eighth as RF Colin Willis scored as DH Frank Martinez bounced out and 1B/3B Kris Goodman scored on an error later in the inning.

But in the ninth, St. Paul reliever Vinny Nitolli shut things down to earn the save.

 

Sioux City 6, Cleburne 3 — Box Score

Despite being out-hit in the game 13-9, the Sioux City Explorers topped the Cleburne Railroaders 6-3.

The Explorers took the lead in the second inning with RBI base knocks from 3B Eudor Garcia and RF Michael Lang and added to it in the fourth with a solo home run from DH LeVon Washington, his seventh of the year. The Railroaders broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the inning as RF Axel Johnson singled home DH Geraldo Valentin but the Explorers pulled ahead 6-1 with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.

1B Pichi Balet scored on a sac fly in the bottom of the eighth and then lifted one of his own in the ninth to reach the final tally. For the Railroaders, 3B Mitch Glasser went 4-for-4 with a run scored.

 

Salina 6, Texas 3 — Box Score

The Salina Stockade scored six runs in the first three innings and held on to beat the Texas AirHogs 6-3.

1B Kewby Meyer pushed the first two runs across with a two-out single in the top of the first inning. In the third, CF Roche Woodard tripled to score LF Matt Haskins and then scored when 3B Jordan Caillouet singled in the next at-bat. Caillouet scored when 2B Fernando Garza singled later in the inning and then he scored after RF Jimmy Heck doubled. Starting pitcher Brian Smith (2-10) earned the win after throwing seven innings and giving up three runs on five hits while striking out 10 batters.

Reliever Tyler Herr picked up his sixth save of the year for working the ninth inning and striking out two batters. For the AirHogs, 1B Levi Scott went 2-for-4 in the game with a triple and two RBIs.
