MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints’ RHP Tanner Kiest has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending September 1, 2019.
Kiest earned the award after going 4-for-4 in save opportunities this past week. Kiest slammed the door on the Chicago Dogs in a 7-6 game on August 26, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in a 4-3 game on August 28, and the RedHawks again in a 12-9 game on August 29. Kiest also battled to close out the Chicago Dogs in a 4-2 game on Sunday, allowing one run but retiring the side to earn the save. On the season, Kiest is 1-2 with a 2.28 ERA and nine saves in 47.1 innings of work.
Kiest began his professional career in 2014 after being drafted in the 28th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Kiest spent two seasons in the Phillies’ organization before landing the Florence Freedom of the Frontier League in 2016. Kiest also spent parts of the 2016 with the Sussex County Miners (CanAm League) and the Lincoln Saltdogs. The righty spent 2018 in the Minnesota Twins’ organization before signing with the Milwaukee Milkmen in the offseason. Kiest was dealt to the St. Paul Saints on August 8 for two players to be named later and the reversionary rights to C Adrian Nieto.
