SAINTS BEAT REDHAWKS TO COMPLETE SWEEP

St. Paul 12, Fargo-Moorhead 5 Box

St. Paul finished off the four-game sweep of Fargo-Moorhead as they downed the RedHawks, 12-5. The Saints pounded out 15 hits in the contest with five batters having multi-hit games. St. Paul DH Ian Gac continued his torrid start to the season as he went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. In only four games, Gac has 10 hits in 14 at-bats, including four doubles, seven runs scored and eight RBI. St. Paul 1B Angelo Songco had two hits and drove in five runs while RF Mike Kvansnicka collected three hits and plated two runs. Saints starter Jeff Shields notched the win as he gave up an earned run on six hits in five innings of work.

Sioux City 5, Sioux Falls 4Box

Sioux City held off a late charge by Sioux Falls to edge past the Canaries by a 5-4 score. The Explorers took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning only to see Sioux Falls cut the deficit to one in the frame on a two-run single by LF Brian Humphries and a two-run double by 2B Michael Wing. The Canaries would not get any closer as Jose Flores would shut them down in the ninth inning and collect his second save of the season. Explorers CF Matty Johnson went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI while RF Michael Lang, 1B Rene Tosoni and SS Noah Perio each collected two hits. Sioux City starting pitcher Dustin Loggins picked up the victory as he went five innings allowing a hit and six walks and striking out two hitters.

Lincoln 7, Kansas City 5 (Game 1 – 7 Innings)Box

The Lincoln Saltdogs rolled out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and would go on to a 7-5 win over the Kansas City T-Bones in game one of a doubleheader. Lincoln C Mitch Canham had a terrific game at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI. Canham also launched a three-run home run as part of a four-run second inning for Lincoln. Saltdogs 3B Curt Smith had a 1-for-3 game with two runs scored and two RBI and CF Jon Gaston had two hits, two runs scored and a run batted in. Lincoln reliever Mackenzie King tossed 2/3 of inning with a walk and collected the win.

Lincoln 7, Kansas City 3 (Game 2 – 7 Innings)Box

Trailing 3-1 entering the 7th inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs plated six runs to erase the deficit and stun the Kansas City T-Bones, 7-3 in game two of the doubleheader. Lincoln RF Brian Joynt went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI to lead the offense. Saltdogs 2B Ryan Lashley went 2-for-4 with three RBI and C Ryan Wiggins had a 1-for-3 night with a run scored and a RBI. Lincoln starting pitcher Kevin McGovern collected the victory going six innings giving up three earned runs on seven hits.

Amarillo 4, Laredo 3Box

The Amarillo Thunderheads edged past the Laredo Thunderheads, 4-3 to gain a split in the four-game series. Amarillo 2B Geraldo Valentin went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run scored and a RBI while DH Rene Leveret had two hits and two RBI. Thunderheads starting pitcher Chris Balcom-Miller picked up the victory going five innings allowing three hits and three walks while striking out five batters. Amarillo reliever Kyle Bellows gave up a leadoff single in the ninth inning but would go on to earn the save. For Laredo in defeat, 2B Kevin Taylor and C Luke Bailey each hit home runs.
