DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints INF Ian Gac (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending May 24.

Even with a new team, Gac picked up where he left off in 2014. A year ago, the Bellevue, Wash. resident hit .349 with 27 home runs and 77 RBI for the Lincoln Saltdogs, leading the team to a Central Division title. In the first four games of 2015 with the Saints, Gac is hitting an incredible .714 (10-for-14) with four doubles, a home run and eight RBI. Thanks in part to Gac’s strong weekend, the Saints swept the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in a four-game series at brand new CHS Field.

Gac began the season Thursday with a 4-for-4 game, including an RBI double in the third inning and a two-run home run in the fifth as the Saints won 8-7. A night later, he was 2-for-4 with two doubles in a 9-2 win. Gac hit a two-RBI double in the third inning and another double in the fifth. Saturday evening, the Saints won 6-1 as Gac was 1-for-2 but drew a pair of walks. Gac capped off his week Sunday with a 3-for-4 ballgame that included two runs scored, three RBI and his fourth double of the season as the Saints completed the sweep with a 12-5 win.

Gac won the award three times a year ago with Lincoln, winning for the weeks ending June 1, August 24 and August 31. He was also named as the designated hitter on the League’s Postseason All-Star team and played in the American Association All-Star Game on July 29 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gac led the American Association in home runs, ranked fourth in RBI and ranked second in total bases.

The Saints head to Amarillo, Tex. to begin a series with the Amarillo Thunderheads on Tuesday evening. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Central at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
