RAILCATS RALLY TO TOP QUEBEC

Three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning allowed the RailCats to rally and split the season-opening interleague series. RF Drew Martinez singled home CF Jon Jones, and 2B Zac Mitchell (pictured) scored on an error to tie the game. The RailCats took the lead when C Michael Vaughn drove in Martinez with a single.

Mitchell’s three-hit day paced the RailCats at the plate, while Jones, Martinez and 1B Roger Bernal had two hits apiece.

For Quebec, 3B Josue Peley hit his first home run of the year, a three-run shot in the third inning.

RHP Shawn O’Neill worked a scoreless inning to earn the win, while RHP Jessie Snodgrass saved the ballgame.

Winnipeg 4, Grand Prairie 2 (Doubleheader Game One- 9 innings)- Box

With the Goldeyes down to their final out in the top of the seventh inning, 1B Casey Hearther hit into an RBI fielder’s choice to score pinch runner Ramon Ortega. Two innings later, it was Hearther who crossed the plate as part of a two-run ninth to win the game. 3B Josh Mazzola singled home 2B Casio Grider, and Hearther scored when LF Mike Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

Grider, RF Brett Krill and C Luis Alen all had two-hit games for Winnipeg. 1B Victor Diaz had a pair of hits for Grand Prairie- a double and his first home run of the season.

RHP Anthony Smith earned the win in relief, while the save went to RHP Jailen Peguero, who struck out two and did not allow a hit in a scoreless in ninth.

Winnipeg 4, Grand Prairie 3 (Doubleheader Game Two- 11 innings)- Box

The Goldeyes completed a sweep of two extra inning games, as they took the nightcap of a doubleheader thanks to an RBI single from C Luis Alen. Alen’s 11th-innning knock plated DH Brady Wilson. Winnipeg had taken the lead in the 10th when 1B Casey Hearther drove in 2B Casio Grider with a single, but the AirHogs answered in the bottom of the frame.

CF Adam Heisler was 4-for-6 in the game, while Hearther and SS Brad Boyer had three hits each. Boyer had a double, the lone extra base hit of the day.

C Ryan Gasporra had three hits for Grand Prairie.

RHP Anthony Smith threw the last 1.2 innings for the Goldeyes, earning his second win of the day.

Wichita at Joplin- Postponed

The game between the Wingnuts and the Blasters was postponed due to rain. It will be made up later this season on a date to be determined.
